Still one of the most ridiculous trades ever. I need someone to track down what that pick ended up becoming? Thinking it was one of those firsts that got traded for Korver but can't remember.
Pick was traded for Mozgov in 2015 and then again by Den with Nurk for a Plumlee and some other crap. Eventually used on Harry Giles. Man so many bad Duke centers saw this pick

Then again, this is also the guy who once traded two role players and a first round pick for Jon Leuer.
That summary of the trade ignores the context. The real reason Memphis made that trade was because they were millions above the luxury tax line, and dumping those three role players on the Cavs got them out of the tax.

So while I’m sure Hollinger liked acquiring Leuer, it was more of a case of “hey, we need to get something back from you in this trade, how about that Lawyer or Lever or whoever he is?” instead of “we really think Jon Leuer is worth three players and a pick.”

While you are right what the 1st priority for Memphis was. Im fairly sure Hollinger knew who Jon Leuer was before trading for him. He would pop up as some statistical darling for Hollinger and others for some reason.

Leuer was making the rookie scale minimum and could play well enough as a backup stretch four. Ended up the emergency big for contending Memphis, so the trade really was about finances first.

Hollinger was a big fan of Leuer going back to before the draft. Leuer had a halfway decent career as a stretch 4. Made $44 mil over 10 years.

As for Collin, Hollinger weights the stats for how tightly they correlate with winning. Collin can put up points, but as many critics point out, it isnt clear he’s been able to move the “win/loss” needle in the correct direction over the course of a full season.

Hollinger anticipates that Sexton would get a contract for more than the BOARD$ model predicts, but didn’t suggest that Collin would be worth the salary. Hollinger’s model also didn’t account for the returning from injury risk either.

And yet … Sexton’s valuation here barely pops above the midlevel exception because of his other, glaring weaknesses. Offensively, his scoring exploits haven’t translated into outsized team results because of his fairly severe limitations as a passer. Also, while he scores at a high rate, the accompanying career true shooting percentage of 55.0 is unremarkable. Defensively, he’s just not very good. Most advanced analytics register him as among the league’s worst, not quite on par with Anfernee Simons or Trae Young but not too far away either.

Not sure if you can still find it but I seem to recall an article somewhere Hollinger wrote before he was hired that said Leuer was a bit of a hidden gem.

Now that I have sufficiently derailed this thread, when do people think this will be resolved?

I remember that too with Leuer. I think reporters and talking heads that knew Hollinger weren't surprised that he would trade for Leuer either after it happened.

I think Sexton's negotiation will be resolved in early October.

I can’t believe there are generally respected posters on this thread comparing Collin Sexton to Tony Parker. What is going on here. Things are getting out of control, possibly the thread should be locked.

We lost that trade because those Memphis dudes and Livingston all ran for the hills after a half a season of playing with Waiters and Kyrie.

Someone said about Lauri, the idea of what Lauri could be is romanticized and better than what he actually is. The idea of him is an absolute all-star if it came together.

I feel similar sentiments about Caris; he's good, but underwhelming most times, and you have to assume 50% availability rate. The idea of Caris is better than he actually is. Career Avg 33% from 3, needs the ball and drains the posession. There are going to be a LOT of clanks off the rim. Like a more inefficient Kobe-lite.

Collin, OTOH, on offense, is better than your idea of him. You think of him as an inefficient westbrook type ball hog, but he's actually remarkably efficient and doesn't waste time with the ball in his hands.

I get the specimen characteristics than Caris possesses, good height and length, plus avg D, and decent ball handling, but does it really make us better over a long stretch? It's a close call imo.
I agree with that. Though I'd like to see Caris with more time with the Cavs squad actually playing, instead of injured.
Collin is better than the description of him that puts him in line with the version of Jordan "Top Gear" Clarkson we got on the Cavs, however (and not to sound like one of them hoop nerds) his lack of positional versatility kind of hurts him with this roster. He is basically a guard who can feasibly play either side, but it comes with costs. That his offense is as good as it is is his saving grace. And its absence the closer the Cavs got to post season was a huge problem.

I remember the pre-draft comparisons to Westbrook. Right today, I'd rather have Collin on the Cavs. But I think that in the short term, just based on what the market is bearing, he might have to eat a "prove it" contract for a couple of years before he can cash in.

But why? I don't want anyone from wizards. Despite his height being 6-7 Kispert has a small wingspan which is also 6-7. Is atrocious as a defender. And really wasn't the shooter he was supposed to be as a rookie.

he might shoot better in year 2
