he might shoot better in year 2

Even if he does he still can't create for himself or others. He still can't defend. He still can't rebound. He's literally Duncan Robinson without the shooting right now. Even if he shoots better he would just be a worse shooting Duncan Robinson.

Ah well still rather him than Kuzma

Kispert is actually a little similar to OA, as the criticism was he was an older player.. but his Rookie campaign was successful by most measures... His shot translates and his defensive numbers are pretty good. He was a plus player as a rookie.. OA might be more athletic..one can hope anyway

If Ochai can be a + player as a rook that would be a pretty big win. I think he is capable. He looked very professional and didn't look out of his depth at all. I especially liked his mentality to get the ball up the floor with the pass. It is a small thing, but it is just winning ball and will work really well on this team.

He seems like a guy who doesn't force it and knows what he can do well, which is good to have on a young team where other guys are trying to find out how good they are.

He was a rookie.

No reason to set all of this stuff in stone like this.

And what separates him entirely from RObinson is that he's being paid like a rookie for multiple years to come.

We have 4 years of college tape of him not being able to defend college kids, not being able to create for himself or others. And sure he has 3 more years on a team friendly salary if the shooting ever translates good for him.

That would be a hilariously bad pairing

I assume this happened before the Jazz got rid of Gobert -- which would have made this more interesting, as he might have been able to elevate even that into a league average defense.

What's the point of even having Gobert if you are going to put good defenders at the Guard positions? Might as well maximize offensive talents everywhere else and maximize the number of guards running at him.

Just because you have an elite interior defender doesn’t mean that point-of-attack defense is worthless.

The Jazz were repeatedly ousted from the playoffs because teams pulled Gobert away from the basket and exploited their weak perimeter defenders.

Sexton and Mitchell might be the worst fit imaginable for any roster, even one with Gobert.

Two short guard that can’t run point or defend sounds like a disaster. I don’t believe the Jazz ever seriously considered this.

If the Jazz still like Sexton, something like this?

New York sends some number of 1st round picks to Utah. The cap space should work out on every side if the first year of Sexton's deal comes out to something like $16M.

It was sort of in jest (because Mitchell and Sexton would be legendarily bad) -- but you should put Gobert on a team where the rest of the roster can score like crazy.
