2022 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You just get them in and get them used to all three positions. You never know when injuries will happen so being able to play all three positions would be important. I mean maybe even get them some 1B experience as well. I know they don't profile there in a sense, but the best bats get into the lineup and if 1B is open, then so be it lol
Good point given the Owen Miller experiment. We definitely have some need for RH depth at 1B. J Naylor is looking like a platoon bat so far in his career, but a good platoon bat if you look at this year.

Curry has been lights out his last two starts, at least. Morris is nearly ready. Vargas seems like he should also be pretty close to getting a shot. We can inject Morris and Vargas into what's proving to be a pretty good, young bullpen to close the season. I would also like to see Curry be the new Pilkington down the stretch.

Vargas has 16.2 IP in AA coming off TJS, the first competitive innings he has thrown since 2019. He hasn't been very effective, almost 5 BB/9.

Morris has 11.2 IP in AAA, coming off a shoulder injury. He missed time last season with a lat strain. He's also had TJS in the past. He has been lights out since returning.

Do we really want to see these kids inserted into a pennant race for a team that is almost always in high leverage situations late in games?

Its tempting...esp Morris...but it's also extremely risky for two kids the org has plans for.

Cody Morris has been dominant at every level he has pitched and is on the 40 he also will be turning 26 at the end of the year making him hardly a kid. Due to yet another injury they will not be able to properly stretch him out for the rotation this year so you might as well let him get his innings in the majors because he has nothing left to prove in AAA. I’ll be extremely disappointed if Morris isn’t pitching in a stretch run for us but if he isn’t he better be penciled into the rotation for next year but even that I’m not sure how they would make the innings jump work.

Vargas at this point I dont want to see him near our pen. Hopefully he can recover and challenge next season or maybe goes the route of Oviedo.

Morris was awesome last night. 10 batters faced, 7 K's, 1 walk, no hits.

I'd switch him out with Eli and give Eli a lot of work in Columbus. Have him work with whoever was working with Karinchak.

Wow, I had never seen footage of him pitching, his delivery is so smooth and easy. This guy is ready.

Morris has about 160 total IPs in pro ball...11.2 this year...5.2 in AAA.

He's had two injuries that have kept him out the majority of the last two seasons.

This is not a resume of someone who is 'ready' to pitch at the MLB level...nor one who should be penciled into the rotation on opening day next year.

This org babies its SP prospects. It shields them as much as possible from injuries. It doesn't throw injury prone SP prospects to the wolves.

It is also an org that has eschewed upgrading its roster this year, presumably to focus on 2024. It is willing to lose games now in order theoretically to win more games later.

How does using Morris now in the stretch run fit that narrative?

It would be to get Morris' feet wet plus get him some innings. He will be limited, but having him as a long man/a multi inning guy a couple days a week, should get him to where he needs to be in the end. Also in September we can add a pitcher or two, so why not get Morgan straightened out, while not using Morris' option since if he goes to the bigs once his rehab stint is up. I think if Morgan can get through this bad stretch and get his fastball righted, he will become a way better pitcher...

very very close to being able to pitch anywhere for short periods of time.. If the CleFO decides to move him into the pen.. he could flourish.. but would be a truly poor use of his overall talent..

As far as someone to watch (read: not quite ready) for the pen/replacement for Eli, Carlos Vargas is that guy. He has an electric arm and a nasty disposition toward opposing hitters who have the temerity to stand in the batters box and try to his his stuff.... Vargas is still working on/gaining confidence in his command/control.. (still, too many free passes) but he has an incredibly gifted arm.. He could be one of the guys brought up in September to reinforce the bullpen.. or, for no other reason than to give him a feel for the Big Leagues.. we'll see...

I hear what saying about how we handle our pitching prospects, but I wonder if they will handle Morris slightly different, due to his age (26 by year end) and that his stuff really look good right now, I watch his 3 inning last night , Really Look good…….

There a pitching factory right behind him, so why not……Also I hate when I hear we’re setting up our roster for 2024, when as of today we’re tie for first place, and can easily win our division, and we have shown that we can play with the big boys, especially when our pitching matches up…

We also have to either trade or move arms to the bullpen eventually and I think Morris' stuff could play pretty easily into a late inning role...

I agree.

Morris is best suited for the pen.

IMO him as a rotation piece is fantasy.

The idea that Morris wouldn't burn an option if we bring him up never occurred to me, and is a great point.

We will need to add a reliever for Toronto to replace Karinchak....

Just thinking out loud, if a pitcher is known to have arm problems, would it be easier to control his arm stress by making him a 5/6 inning pitcher 70/80 pitches every 5 days or so …..Then getting him up in the bullpen at any given time, I know he wouldn’t have to go back to back, but still…..
