Again, and I am going to keep circling back to this, NEO Cleveland baseball fans should be absolutely embarrassed that the 57-92 Detroit Tigers are going to draw half a million more fans to their ballpark than the soon to be AL Central champions. That is so bad.
Would you tend to agree the ownership/fan relationship is better in Detroit? Much to our "approval" they pulled out the checkbook to lock up a future HOFer who became quite an albatross... That is NOT Cleveland's MO. Detroit also much to our "approval" settled on the worst FA SS of note, and gave him a boatload of money.. That is NOT Cleveland's MO.
In a pure business sense those mentioned moves, were not good and "should" be avoided .. However, from a relationship perspective, or a fan's perspective are those moves "inspiring" or show a "commitment" from the FO to give the fans what they (believe they) want?.. Maybe?
EDIT. In hindsight it sounds like there was serious consideration given to trading Jram because "we couldn't pay him fair market value" fans HATE hearing that shit. When he signs a team friendly deal, there is no reason to extend that love to the FO.. Jose is the one making the "sacrifice" the FO just "benefits"...
And finally we haven't won a World Series since 1948... Fans have a reasonable "right" to be skeptical IMO.
