2022 Season | Series #47 | Guardians @ White Sox | Sep. 20-22, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Again, and I am going to keep circling back to this, NEO Cleveland baseball fans should be absolutely embarrassed that the 57-92 Detroit Tigers are going to draw half a million more fans to their ballpark than the soon to be AL Central champions. That is so bad.

Would you tend to agree the ownership/fan relationship is better in Detroit? Much to our "approval" they pulled out the checkbook to lock up a future HOFer who became quite an albatross... That is NOT Cleveland's MO. Detroit also much to our "approval" settled on the worst FA SS of note, and gave him a boatload of money.. That is NOT Cleveland's MO.

In a pure business sense those mentioned moves, were not good and "should" be avoided .. However, from a relationship perspective, or a fan's perspective are those moves "inspiring" or show a "commitment" from the FO to give the fans what they (believe they) want?.. Maybe?

EDIT. In hindsight it sounds like there was serious consideration given to trading Jram because "we couldn't pay him fair market value" fans HATE hearing that shit. When he signs a team friendly deal, there is no reason to extend that love to the FO.. Jose is the one making the "sacrifice" the FO just "benefits"...

And finally we haven't won a World Series since 1948... Fans have a reasonable "right" to be skeptical IMO.

Yeah, but no moves at the deadline either?!? They just stumbled into this thing…
They tried making a could trades, so they clearly identified needs. It can't down, yet again, to money/cost. Oh well. Just going to cheer for these guys, and hopefully enough gain valuable experience and can build on it, unlike the core from 2016 that never improved and had to be broken up.

Keep in mind this year was a very frustrating one considering the re-branding, the lack of off-season, the payroll, a lot of season ticket holders going bye-bye's, then you factor in the shit months of April/May in downtown Cleveland.

I'll go out on a limb here and say percentages will be up next season after this run. I personally know of a few season ticket holders that canceled because of the changes, but they still love the team. People take their stance until they accept things for what they are. Winning cures everything.

The double headers also cursed our home game numbers. The Dolan's didn't spend much so they should still make out after they host the wild card.

They had internal options that they needed and wanted to give a chance.

Not making a move at the deadline wasn’t some white flag. It was more of a “we’re going to sink or swim with the guys we have in the organization” thing.

There legitimately weren’t spots available for new players to enter the fray.
All in jest….I have been among the least critical as to the non-moves, etc

I don't go to many games any more because:

1. View - On TV, every pitch looks like I am watching it from the middle of the field.
2. Time - By definition, I'm in NE Ohio, but it would take me 2+ hours to get to the field. I can watch any recorded game in that time by speeding it up Benny Hill style.
3. Priorities - Running kids around to 100 activities. Supporting local events. Sitting on my chair or couch watching endless options.

These are the main ones for me. When I watch a game I feel like a fan. But if fans are supposed to go to games, I guess I'm more of a follower.

Detroit is much easier to attend. One of my best friends from AZ moved back to detroit and goes to games, he lives in the burbs but has no issue getting to the games.

But we should be embarassed, because financially you cant argue Detroit does better than Cleveland. I wish i knew the solution, but geography is part of the issue, but not all of the issue by any means.
Should have added a smiley in there, I guess…this team neither stumbled or crumbled….never been worried on “non-moves”

Let’s be clear.

The Guardians were not expected to compete this year and were hovering near 0.500 until the last couple of weeks. They traded away almost all of the players from the 16-18 run. They have one of the lowest payrolls in the game. People haven’t had a connection to the team until recently.

I’ve been to 5 games this year, or once a month, and I like baseball. I bet most people go to 1-2 a year.

Attendance will improve with a playoff appearance. People are talking about these guys now.

You're a good responsible fan in my book

Agree of course…the no deadline moves reasoning has always struck me as funny for a number of years, but especially this year.
Go Guards!

The identified needs could be summed up as catching.. Murphy would have been a HUGE addition at the time.. but not if the price was Williams / Espino.. The CleFO operates with fiscal responsibility for good reason.. It should be noted that the need has yet to be satisfied and remains the MOST dire of all needs for this club...

The offseason discussion on this subject.. will remain equally open minded, imho...

Hard to know how much of a role the auto industry plays in Detroit, in terms of corporate support for the team. Detroit was also historically larger and richer. And the Tigers won championships in 1968 and 1984, both more recent than our last WS title.

Honestly dont think a victory in 1984 has anything to do 40 years later with attendance in Detroit...that is a stretch, lol

I think that is typical of allot of people who are supposed to be going to these games.

Now i am on the outskirts of town here in Phoenix. I am not a Diamondbacks fan, and the field is awful, but I have gone a couple of times for free. It takes me about 20-25 minutes to get there, and there are about 4 million people within 45 mins, 3.5 mill in 30 minutes. Parking takes about 15 minutes and its only a 10-15 minute walk, so about an hour and I am at the gate.

So much easier from where I lived in Akron, now I dont go unless my tickets are free because like i said not a fan, and the field sucks...but if i did want to go, so much more convenient, plus if i lived in east valley, i can take the light rail which probably includes abotu 2 million people conveniently.i am just not one of them that can take the light rail.

Don’t underestimate the power of a championship experienced in your formative years. Not that I’ve experienced one, outside of my high school and college teams.

Yeah, but we have people in their 50's coming, its the younger crowd we cant get.

But based on their Division they have been in the playoff hunt and division title hunt almost the entire year.

This is not some team that was out of it all year who suddenly won 16 games in a row to climb into the race in late august/early September.
