2022 Season | Series #47 | Guardians @ White Sox | Sep. 20-22, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Depending which list you use, Detroit market size is ranked 12th-14th. Ours is ranked next to last.

In terms of metro population, Detroit is twice the size of Cleveland.

Detroit is averaging just under 3000 more fans per game, but has had six more home dates, partly because of a few traditional doubleheaders.

The actual difference is 311,000 in six more home dates.

Tito is playing the hot hand as Brennan is starting again.

Brennan has a 13 game hittting streak in which he has collected 26 hits.

Well, seeings how I can’t even get YOU fellas excited about tonight’s game, I’m not sure you fellas have a leg to STAND on, when it comes to the enthusiasm of the NE Ohio populace!

Crazy we took 4 out of 5 from the Twins, and Seriously busted there hopes and then they go out and get sweep by KC,….lmao

Would you tend to agree the ownership/fan relationship is better in Detroit? Much to our "approval" they pulled out the checkbook to lock up a future HOFer who became quite an albatross... That is NOT Cleveland's MO. Detroit also much to our "approval" settled on the worst FA SS of note, and gave him a boatload of money.. That is NOT Cleveland's MO.

In a pure business sense those mentioned moves, were not good and "should" be avoided .. However, from a relationship perspective, or a fan's perspective are those moves "inspiring" or show a "commitment" from the FO to give the fans what they (believe they) want?.. Maybe?

EDIT. In hindsight it sounds like there was serious consideration given to trading Jram because "we couldn't pay him fair market value" fans HATE hearing that shit. When he signs a team friendly deal, there is no reason to extend that love to the FO.. Jose is the one making the "sacrifice" the FO just "benefits"...

And finally we haven't won a World Series since 1948... Fans have a reasonable "right" to be skeptical IMO.
Absolutely not.

Detroit's not better off attendance-wise because their team is bad and they wasted money.

I think they have a more approachable ballpark.

It's still difficult to get to Progressive Field from the suburbs. Short of putting a rapid station underneath Progressive Field, I think the only answer is watching people continue to move downtown to live within walking distance of the ballpark.

However, driving down to Greektown, parking, enjoying restaurants and bars, then walking into the ballpark, is a nice time in Detroit.

Remember--part of the whole "Gateway" design was Tower City being the transportation hub with busses and light rail. Well, those modes of transportation have been gutted rather than grown, and the price and inconvenience of traveling by car continues to grow.

Also, I pay absolutely zero credence to the "I don't go because the Dolans are cheap!" crowd, the "I'm not going because of the name change!" crowd or the "Attendance will improve if they win a World Series!" crowd. They're all just excuses from people who don't feel comfortable saying their true feelings--they just didn't want to go to a baseball game. They'd rather be blowhards than honest.

I've probably quoted and reposted this 10+ times, but it still holds true and needs repeated:
Cleveland showed its true colors in 2017.

We were coming off the 2016 World Series, had two MVP-caliber position players in Jose and Lindor. We made a big-spending, flashy free agent signing in Edwin Encarnacion. We had one of the greatest pitching staffs in the history of baseball, the best record in the American League, and we went on the longest win streak in the history of baseball, in the middle of summer with beautiful weather... and we still weren't selling out every game.

You had the absolute perfect storm and fans didn't show up.

It's clear that nothing the team does will change that--but some people continue to point at anything they don't like and say "See! That's why I'm not going!"

The truth is, no matter what the team does, you were never going to begin with.

nice... suicide squeeze plates Josey.. and the good guys start off leading..

Now let's see what Bieber has in store for us tonight.
