2022 Post-Season | Wild Card Series | Rays @ Guardians | Oct. 7-9, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
There's a rumor that Tony Pena secretly used Albert Belles biceps to hit that HR. It's absurd, Tony had power and was a power hitter early in his career, but the myth persists.
And Jason Grimsley had to climb through a bunch of ductwork and ceiling tile to recover Belle’s detachable bicep from the locker room when Boston’s manager requested a check to have it replaced with one of Kenny Lofton’s.

The issue though is Gimenez backed out and tried to get the dugout attention and nothing happened. We all assumed that it was due to being hit which wasn't the case. But, ump called it a strike (probably thought he went).Aas for the pitch that was a strike that Andres thought was strike 2, ump did his strike then out pump. Thus, ump called the ball before a strike but hard to overturn it as it is just a judgment of if Andres went which by photo he didn't.

“Albert Belle biceps game”? Refresh my memory.

The game featured the Red Sox manager asking to see Belle's bat for doctoring. Belle walked up to their dugout, pointed to his biceps, and chewed them out for taking his bat. He is believed to have said something like "I got your juiced bat right here."

Long way of saying umps and Andres screwed up.

I've been lucky enough to be at some great playoff games. I was at the Pena game, the Sandy Alomar/Mariano Rivera game, a WS game, the midge game and the Frankie GS game.

My wife grew up in a city without an MLB team. We've been to a number of Indian/Guardian games but she had never been to a playoff game. We were at game 2.

She asked me what the difference between a regular game and a playoff game. I told her, at some point, there will be a moment when the atmosphere and energy is so thick and palpable, you really can't accurately describe it.

When Rosario got beaned in the 6th, and Jose came up with the bases loaded, and they blared the "JOSE" song over the PA...it was exactly one of those moments. All I did was look at her, and she understood what I meant.

Granted, that inning was a huge letdown, but those are the moments that make being a fan worth it, win or lose.

Also, Spongebob's homer was pretty cool.

I hadn't heard that story before, but it sounds just like Albert.

Belle's '95 season was my favorite Tribe member's season. He was a force of nature... and pissed off at the world.
I often reflect on that lineup: Belle at 4th, Ramirez at 3rd and Thome at 5th, or sometimes, 9th! All three of them should be in the Hall of Fame. Belle was the most frightening, when he was on. If you pitched to him, he'd hit it hard enough to kill you. Ramirez was the most unpredictable. You simply could not pitch it past him on the inside. And he was a bad ball hitter, so if you pitched it outside or low, he might hit it for a homer. Thome was the most disciplined and consistent. He was happy to get a walk. But people forget that one year he had 14 triples--and 52 doubles. and 38 homers.

Wasn't it Murray 5th, with Thome, Ramirez, Sorrento and Alomar making up the 6-9 spots?

i was going to say I thought it was

lofton, vizquel, baerga, belle, murray, thome, Ramirez, Sorrento, Alomar

edit In 96 when Murray was traded I think thats when Ramirez ended up bumping up the order

Yes, we had a variety of lineups from 93-2001. I forget when we lost Baerga and picked up Roberto Alomar. I know we had him in 97. I forgot about Eddie Murray, who played quite well for us.

I think it was '93 that Thome batted 9th and hit 14 triples and 52 doubles. What a monster year!

I'd be happy to have Ramirez, Sorrento, and Alomar as my top 3 hitters now! Let Jose bat cleanup.
