It was an ex co-worker's dad's office that was broken into and was the head ump for that game. One of his about 12 things his dad did in a very prestigious HOF umpire career. I met his dad once and he signed a copy of his book for me. Dave Phillips is his name, only guy to throw out Gaylord Perry for spitball too, among other highlights.
According to my co-worker, 100% the bat was corked, lol...Also Bob Costas commented because Dave and Bob are best friends according to my friend.
