The new rules with 2 way players allow them to practice and play so many games anyways that it’s essentially a 16th and 17th roster spotNow I'm all like,
"Koby is leaving a spot open in case there is a deal to pounce on. Shrewd."
He will just convert him after the deadline if they want him for a playoff push.

Excellent point. As exciting as Diakite is, with a combination of skill, size, and athleticism that we don't have much of on our roster, he hasn't played much since leaving college. He will benefit from playing, so a two-way contract this year is perfect. If he continues playing like he did in the preseason or we have frontcourt injuries, they can call him up. Give credit to Koby for being right in his prediction that Diakite would clear waivers. Also with the Charge playing at the Wolstein center and sharing a practice facility with the Cavs, I don't think there is an easier situation to shuffle players from an G-league team to an NBA team. They could literally have a player be at the Wolstein center and have him walk over a handful of blocks to play for the Cavs.
Which tells me they actually plan to use him quite a bit this year. It’s a little unusual to use a 2-way on a guy as old as Diakite, but given that he got a late start at basketball and is still developing, I like the move.
I’m glad that I don’t have to see Nembhard ever again
Dom has his guy for the season. Hopefully this assuages the frustration from Eason and Agbaji losses.I think Diakite was actually miscast as a C. He is a SF/PF. It's time to groom him to be one. Especially for this team.. not because it's our weakest position, but because he fits so well with the pieces that we have. He will just need to crash the boards, play hard, shoot open 3's and attack closeouts. That's it. And he can do all of those things.
Really happy that Koby had a plan for him. And saving that roster spot is really smart. Koby knows he has a chance to slide into the DMs of some Wembenyama perverts and is also probably going to gauge throughout the season how Windler is doing. If he plays well and finds his role, then he sticks, if not then he is a trade bait an you have two open roster spots open.
