2022 Post-Season | Division Series | Yankees vs. Guardians | Oct. 11 - ?, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I disagree with this, but would add that the only reason the offense would feel 3-0 felt like 10-0 would be because they didn't believe they could score 4 runs.
I'll also add that the players aren't as emotionally weak as the portion of the fanbase who feels like the game is over every time we're down.

People too often believe their emotions are reality.

I’m not trying to be a jerk here, but there’s a lot of folks over here currently who haven’t watched a lick of this team all season and it shows based on some of these comments… Lordy.

FYI, Yankees fans think that Costas was biased toward the Guardians all series.

I personally enjoyed his work this series, but I know many on this board took issue with him. So, I thought that was interesting enough to share.

I completely agree. Jose dropped off the map for the last part of the season and the playoffs compared to what he gave us during the bulk of the season. Andres really fell off with the bat too. The offense in general lost plate discipline and they were their own worst enemy at times. I really hope they go back and study what it was that made them successful and what changed towards the end of the season.
The offense never had plate discipline though. 6th worst chase rate in the majors, and the worst differential between chase rate and in-zone swing rate.

Maybe it's to be expected with a bunch of youngsters but at least there's a lot of room for improvement in laying off balls and swinging at strikes.

If you are 40 or older I guess it was kind of cool seeing a guy who was a famous broadcaster several decades ago when you were getting into sports doing these games. As the series went on it kind of lost its luster. It is kind of cool to go back and watch an episode of Family Ties from the 80s, but it’s not something I care to do for a week straight. Also Darling and Costas seemed to have zero chemistry.

Jose hit 333 with a 844 OPS this postseason, both best on the team.

It was mostly Naylor and Gimenez not hitting like they did in the regular season. Both young, aggressive hitters that good pitchers took advantage of.

It's all part of gaining experience. They got to play 7 playoff games and won 4 of them, 3-1 at home, 1-2 road.

They got their feet wet and I feel like the group as a whole is ready for the sharks and the deep end of the pool...

Well we're in 40 man hell already so it seems like the move there is going to be to cut Maile so we are going to be sort of backed into a corner and they love the catchers they know
Why would you think they're going to cut Maile? Hedges is the FA, more expensive, and defensively regressed. I've said all along I expect them to agree with Maile in arbitration.
What culture, exactly? This is a YOUNG group that has ENERGY. I think you're misreading this team. They feed off each other.
The culture of professionalism and not acting like an asshole. I am not misreading this team in the slightest, nor its FO personnel and how they expect their players to behave. The energy comes from professionalism, hustle and a never die attitude, not showboating. It is you that is misreading this team.

Agreed. Gimenez looked exactly like he did last year when I thought we needed our heads examined after trading for him. I expect a huge leap again next year after more adjustments. Not worried at all. He basically matched Lindor's dismal 2020 post season performance against the Yanks and he's years younger.

And I promised not to repost the bandwagon fans image again.

Not a major league baseball player, but I find it doubtful that showboating has much of an impact on the other team’s plate approach or pitching strategy during a playoff game.

It’s a game where focus is extremely important and having that kind of shit in your mind would be detrimental, if anything.

I think fans bias it one way or the other as being one of those things that affects the other team based on the outcome.

I could absolutely see it making a difference in football and basketball where aggression and effort are bigger factors. We see it all the time with big runs, dunks, stops, etc.

Lol good grief, might as well hang a sign in your yard that says get off my lawn. Must have missed the numerous times the Yankees pimped homers. Naylor's quote after the game re: his reception in Yankee stadium, "That was so sick. That was honestly like a dream come true as a kid; playing in an environment like this where they've got diehard fans, it's cool ... The fact I got that going thru the whole stadium, that was sick." And this is why Naylor is a cool dude. He talked shit, fell short, and got it right back and took it with a smile on his face and didn’t complain. He loves to have fun. You're taking this way too seriously. Stop yelling at clouds about nothing.

Maile may get the DFA treatment, cause they want to create a roster spot... Cleveland also would likely have a contract in place for him as well... Bimbo stated the DFA thing was very possible

Essentially doing the DFA, then resigning him to the minor league deal with an invite to spring training, with the opt out and the 1.2-1.5 million if he makes the roster... Don't be surprised if Hedges gets the same deal. I feel like both guys will be in spring training and the opt/agreement that if they don't make the big league roster, Cleveland will help/listen to a deal from other teams like they did with Leon...

You always bring in extra players for spring anyways, so having both back to help work with Lavastida, Naylor (and maybe if we acquire another young guy C as well...)

Remember this place is full of old farts... lol

:runaway:

Hell of a season; I’ll never enjoy watching this team lose but it’s hard to genuinely be mad or depressed given our collective expectations. Can’t wait to watch the future of this squad unfold.
