What bothers me is when a front office with a tight budget tries to appease their fan base by saying “we went aggressively after (name your big name free agent) but couldn’t get it done”. The Guardians going after Rodon last year was reasonable, but now he’s in line for a big payday, and we don’t do those kind of deals.

Again.

Literally every FO in the sport is reaching out to him. You don’t and you aren’t doing your job.

It isn’t done to appease fans, it’s done because if you want your job you do it.

I said it last year and the year before that and I’ll say it again this year. The front office makes 0 moves or 0 offers or 0 attempts to acquire players to appease fans. Franchises would be ran into the ground if they operated with the intention to appease fans.

I get what you’re saying. But it’s disingenuous for ANY front office to use due diligence as evidence that they’re geniuses. Saying “we talked to Aaron Judge but he went another direction” is disingenuous.

They apparently approached him recently within the last few days.

How this got back to me. Never heard Meisel report on it. Good scoop by him if that’s the case.

But still points to the idea by offering him a multi year deal and attempting to trade for Mahle that they are seriously trying to improve the rotation.

It bothers me I can’t find it, but mid-summer the Athletic reported it, and I thought it was a complete fabrication.

Makes me very happy that they offered. Always should try things like that.

They don’t share these things with the public though.

I do.

I’m telling you guys what is happening. They aren’t out there saying “we tried” after every attempt. You guys don’t hear about 95% of the things being done or attempted behind the scenes.

I’m trying to bring some of them to light for you to show how they’re trying to build a roster.

You’re making a mountain out of a molehill here. They’re doing what every franchise in the game does.

And yes, they did talk to Aaron Judge’s camp. And yes, nothing is going to happen. But you HAVE to do it. Just like the Dodgers just did with him where their low offer made it out to the public. It doesn’t matter who you are, you have to talk to people. This is a relationship based business at the end of the day.

And for all we know, Carlos Rodon says "I have been waiting my whole life to retire a Guardian, lets get this done right away Jose"...

I know we aren't signing him, but he was a good target last year, still is if you can afford it.. The cycle repeats..

Talking to him and getting a feel/developing relationships with him, his management guys, etc. just has to be general best business practice. Even calling Aaron Judge to "wish him luck" and to tell him "the NL is actually the better league" needs to be done. Who knows what a little proper due diligence can do?

Leaking knowledge or re-exposing it, in this case the offer we made to Rodon this year might be for tactical purposes as well. Not sure how or if that helps somehow in negotiations with others but who knows. Talk to everybody and send out plenty of holiday cards.

They should just not reach out to these guys and only focus on the minor league free agents they sign every year.

Can get you Edwin Encarnacion when people didn’t think there was a snowballs chance in hell he would sign here.

But he wanted to play with Lindor and Santana and for Tito on a team primed for a World Series run and they were able to bridge that gap. Wouldn’t have happened if they didn’t reach out to him early in the process and find that out.

Same thing happened with Bourn. Reached out to him at the beginning of FA just to talk. Circled back when the market didn’t play out the way his reps expected. And they were able to get something done because of the previous legwork.

Now you’re just being an asshat.

Absolutely. I apologize too, just was having some fun during a boring week.

I get the frustration of wanting one of these rumored deals to finally go through. I do. Especially with how close they’ve been to swinging a few of these deals lately. Hard to hold on to something that isn’t happening and be satisfied as a fan. I get it.

But it isn’t for lack of legit trying. That should make fans hopeful, not disenfranchised that they’re being lied to by the FO. They’re going to land one of these deals here soon.

Hey Bimbo if you are still around and want to anwers a question or two, I was meaning to ask you about the potential to revisit the Christian Walker rumor(s)... Do you think/know if the ask is just to high or maybe there is still a chance to get something done there?

Also any chance Jose Abreu is a fan of Jose Ramirez? Maybe? Thank you.

I don’t think the ask is too high. I think Arizona just doesn’t have an idea of what they want to do in 2023 just yet, compete or get younger.

Cleveland is monitoring the availability of him and CJ Cron.

Everyone in the league likes Jose, so yes he is a fan. But Cleveland is and always has been a tough sell on higher profile Cuban players.
