Blasted through Full Metal Alchemist. It’s definitely goated. I can see why it’s at the top of many lists now.
There was like 20 characters in the show worthy of their own show. I don’t know how they did it, but the character building was probably the best I’ve ever seen. Very well written and complete show in general.
Roy Mustang was definitely one of my favorite characters if not my favorite. Yet they somehow made several characters the hero in the end if not all of the main ones. With real weight to it.
Yeah there is something just different about this show that many really just don’t have. It’s hard to quantify but it was very well done. I feel like there were a couple plot holes but easy to overlook.

Catching up on various stuff recently. Black Summoner was solid. Beast Tamer was decidedly worse. S3 of Bookworm was very good. Spy x Family is probably the best slice of life in a long time, highly recommend to anyone interested. Its very wholesome despite most of the cast being involved in spy wars.

I liked Beast Tamer lol It was a more laid back and wholesome in the end. Like it wasn't anything special, but it was an easy watch when life is a bit hectic haha
If you liked Black Summoner you will like Reincarnated as a Sword... The guy who became the sword is a lot like Arc from Skelton Knight, and the character who wields him is a battle junkie lol

I think my issue with Beast Tamer is that I just find the protagonist really really boring

And that's fair, Rein is not a high octane MC like a lot of shows. In the LN he gains more personality as the story goes along. Probably why I like him since he isnt the norm... He's a laid back and easy going character, but he isn't a dunce and isn't afraid to jump in the fire if needed. It's really the girls that have the personalities in the show lol
I don't think it will have a second season especially since they didn't make the LN in English...
Arios with the influence of the human Monica (Aka where he got the demon ring from) ends up turning on his party and humanity and joins the demon lords party. Monica turns the Mage into a demon, the heavy swordsman dies trying to stop the changed mage. The cleric dies after going back to the church and being attacked by the Demon Lord's army. She at least recognizes the folly and tries to stop Arios...
Rein finds out, he is also a descendant of the original hero as well, hence why the village he lived in was attacked. He doesn't take the Hero's mantle though, but ends up helping decide on the next hero and befriending the new hero.
That's were the story is at now it seems. He is more of a boring character since he's super chill and easy going. How many of those are around? Lol

Though I wish they would stop the stories with only girls in the parties of one guy... In most worlds, most of the Adventurers are guys, so the stories aren't as organic as i would like...
Though Inn Keepers have become great wingmen lately... They keep putting MCs with cute ladies in one room haha

Imo overlord does a lot of that setup better than most things I've seen in the last year

Manga for it seems to be highly rated... Amazon has the first book at 5 stars, so it sounds like it has good material to start out an anime with.

The wife and I ended up watching the first cour of BlueLock on crunchy. I had no expectations and really just put something random on to watch, But I can say only 10 episodes in that this is already the second best sports anime I've seen (Ippo being #1). Can't wait for the second part to finish up in few months.

Ive been waiting for the second season to finish but heard really good things about it. @sportscoach recommended Aoaishi to me which is also a soccer anime which was excellent

I'm watching that and liking what they decided to do with it since it wasn't covered extensively in the games
Eminence in Shadow is also a fun watch
Liked Reincarnated as a Sword, Skeleton Knight and the Nier Automata v1.1a one was good but got delayed
Since it appears there are others here that just found stuff like Full Metal if you liked that check out the Legend of Galactic Heroes
Here is a link for you - this from starting point in 2018 and will set the tone for 3 runs after it, fantastic series if you like sci-fi or things like Battle Star Galactica (there was stuff done for this in the late 80's early 90's that was decent but animation was a little rough. 2018 series is a good entry point)
