Cavaliers Trade Ideas: 2022-23 regular season edition

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just a fun one here. Nothing too serious:

**If Durant is traded and Brooklyn decides to rebuild**

Cavs get - Anunoby, Simmons
Nets get - Love, LeVert
Raptors get - Claxton, Okoro

Why for Nets: They get rid of Simmons terrible contract, which will prevent them from doing a deep rebuild. They give up Claxton to do it, but he will be very expensive (and maybe not worth it) by the time they have rebuilt. They presumably just got a ton of draft assets in the Durant deal.

Why for Raptors: They go for the 1-2 year rebuild. Claxton gives them the true center that they lack, Okoro is an Anunoby replacement with potential, but maybe a few years away. Both pieces fit well around Barnes, who is the future.

Why for Cavs: They want to compete in the next three years. Anunoby is the player that you are hoping Okoro could be in 2-3 years time -- but he's not ready yet. Simmons is the bad contract you take on in order to get him. DG/DM/OG/Mobley/Allen might be the best top 5 in the league, and that should win in the playoffs.

This can't be called a "fun one" if it involves taking on Ben Simmons...

I made a post on the Cavs season thread about how I viewed our ideal rotation given the current roster. Quick summary was (with assumption of Rubio continuing improvement and Love returning somewhat to form):

Starting 5 - Garland/Mitchell/Wade/Mobley/Allen
Rotation bench - Levert/Rubio/Love
Situational bench - Cedi/Okoro
End of bench - Neto/Lopez/Lamar

There is just no way I am trading Okoro if I am the GM. His play has improved immensely since becoming a starter and he is nowhere near his ceiling. I've been saying this for at least a year now, and I believe it even more so after seeing his recent play. He scores in transition and has become a pretty reliable 3-point shooter. He doesn't create his own shot (yet), but on a team with a lot of other guys who like to dribble, we don't need that from him.

I hope we don't make any trades, and I predict that will be the case. Our team chemistry is very good, and we don't need to upset that. Levert is helpful as part of the rotation because he plays better defense than Garland or Mitchell and isn't the offensive liability of, say, Stevens. He has accepted his role off the bench, but can also step in when Garland and Mitchell get hurt (which seems to happen a lot).

I also think Kevin Love has better days ahead. He just needs to heal up and then bring last year's game back when April comes around. I don't want to lose his experience, shooting, and leadership.

Cedi plays well with Rubio and it is hard to deny his excellent +/- numbers. He is often a part of our Cavalanches. Windler won't bring anything in a trade. Neither would Stevens. I like our guys. Let's keep them all and then reassess in the off-season.

According to rumors Cavs have shown interest in Hart from Portland, Reddish from the Knicks, Bogdanovich from Atlanta, Williams from Boston and the Cavs also have been mentioned as having interest in Malik Beasley, Tim Hardaway Jr., Doug McDermott, Luke Kennard, Royce O’Neale, and Hamidou Diallo. It has also been stated that it is unlikely a Cavs trade will happen.

Basically, if a trade happens LeVert, Cedi, Windler, and Love are the ones mentioned as likely to go.

I do not see either Portland trading Hart as he is getting 30 min./gm, or Boston trading Williams for any of our players mentioned; but if either Portland or Boston wants Levert or Cedi, etc. Then the Cavs are going to say yes immediately. Very unlikely to happen.

Where I see a trade possibility is if the Cavs were to take back longer contract. Something like Love for Fournier, Reddish and a Knicks first round pick may interest both teams. Personally, I wouldn't mess with Reddish, but a first rounder to take on Fournier salary for next year, maybe?

If Love is traded it will probably be to take a longer contract back with the Cavs getting a first rounder or in a Salary dump like Joe Harris and Royce Oneal instead of a first round pick.

Atlanta desperately needs future salary relief, maybe the Cavs can use Levert or Love in some way to acquire Bogdanovic or in a Collins trade. I would be ecstatic over a Levert for Bogdanivich or for the Clippers Kennard, in straight up deals.

Bones Hyland is mentioned as a player Denver is open to trading for a first round pick or a wing defender. If the Cavs could get him for Stevens and 2 second rounders, I would do it and worry about the fit later. He has immense talent as a shooter.

With Okoro's recent play and Wade back playing well, the Cavs have no urgent needs. Any trades will be more for the future, unless it is a Levert for a veteran shooter.

What about:
Vert and cedi
For
Little, nurkic, hart

Saves Portland a lot of money. And gets them off 2 guys not in long term plans.
Fills some needs for cavs if dg willing to pay.
I really don't think the Cavs have business committing that amount of money to a third big for that long. Nurkic's contract scares me.

The only trade I wouldn't hate seeing is turning Windler's roster spot into an actual body. Even something like Windler and a 2nd for Reddish or Justin Holiday would be fine.

Windler being unable to play is more valuable then what Reddish provides on the court. Reddish is really bad and if he's acquired he might actually play. At least with Windler he can't be a negative on the court since he can't actually get healthy enough to play.

If KD is traded, I'm going to need the Nets to trade us DFS.

Cavs get: Mo Bamba, Royce O'Neale, Joe Harris [take Harris' contract to get O'Neale]

Nets get: Kevin Love [expiring], Cavs' 2024 second round pick

Magic get: Dylan Windler [expiring, to make salaries match], Cavs' 2023 and 2025 second round picks

Time is running out and Cavs still havent made any moves at all.

Cavs get: Cameron Johnson
Nets get: Isaac Okoro and two 2nds

Who says no?
