Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Just an idea...

Cleveland gets
LHSP Joe Whitman (SF)
INF/OF Norby (Bal)

Baltimore gets
SP Mason Black (SF)
RP Tanner Burns (cle)

San Fran gets
SP Bieber
(Possible cash or PTBNL)

Thoughts? @Gson @CDAV45 @petes999 @Tondo

Let's say the Giants want Bieber, but they don't have the hitting talent Cleveland wants, but they have nice SP prospects... Swapping Black for a bat like Norby, Then using Norby plus another SP prospect... I like Whitman and he's a local kid in a sense.. To get Bieber...

I would look more for a SP in AAA. That is our biggest need right now. Burns adds little so its basically 2 for 1 vs 1 for 1 which I would focus on. Give me someone who will start in 2025 especially with Espino down.

Kind of agree with Tondo that with Brito and for myself Martinez, we got duplicates where Norby (and a power bat that people wanted) isn't our need to go after now. And, we got Freeman who clogs up that 2b/OF position as well.

I like Whitman, but he's a recent late 2nd rd college pick far from MLB, basically Hajjar at the time of the Benson trade.

Norby is overrated. Decent bat, but he's a lesser version of what we already have in Juan Brito and he's somewhere between Brito and Bracho as bat/defender profile. He's superfluous and a bad fit in our system.
Agreed(mostly) and in order to find room for Norby someone would have to go in another deal which makes it even more unlikely. I do think he is more of a bat that I prefer over someone like Kwan, Laureano and maybe even Brennan. The problem with that is he isn't anywhere near them in defensive value and his bat isn't that much better than those 3 to justify him. I do like Brito and Martinez better I think.

I do like Whitman, but he is at the very least a year away and if we trade Bieber we'll need some help in the present. Also, I'm not looking for guys who are ready to get their feet wet next season. We need to get those guys on the field now and get it settled by the 25 season IMO.

Cincinnati's starting CF'er, TJ Friedl, has been diagnosed with a severely fractured wrist.. There could be a useful deal created from the two clubs.. not a great return should be expect from Straw.. but..

Nah, they'll just go with Will Benson... And he will do just fine.

they might.. but there are long odds that a deal for a ML CF'er with gold glove credentials that appears to have figured it out could be had..for not very much more than a few schekels and another guy the Reds don't want..

You and everyone here wishes. Nobody will give anything worth having for Straw. The return for him will be not having him on the roster and that's enough for me.

Edited to say that he could be part of a bigger deal, but I have no inclination what that would look like or who could be going where.

I feel like Bimbo essentially said Straw is worth more than we believe, but his value is purely defensively and even with the poor bat he has still been a positive bWAR guy... (I mean he had 1.1 bWAR in 23...)

@Tondo @Gson

A guy like Cole Schoenwetter back for Straw... Would that be worth doing?

I'm with Bimbo regarding Straw's value, but he won't fetch a 2M HS arm. More like a Ross Carver type, a late round college pick that showed some promise.

Part of me still wants to give Straw another shot, because the bar he needs to clear is so low and he did it before. That, and because we don't have strong alternatives for this year. But I would understand if they straight dealt him just to get rid of his salary and make room on the roster.

It makes some sense to shuffle Laureano/Florial/Freeman/(DDLS or Fry) in the DH spot to start the year to give enough playing time to all players involved.

This was his direct quote "The amount of $ we would have to eat or the player added to him that you think it would take would be significantly lower than you expect."

He was talking about how many teams would pay the $$$s but more on a shorter-term contract than 3 years. More likely 1, maybe 2. That is why we may have to keep him till this trade deadline when someone has a need -- more than the Reds who have Benson and won't hinder their lineup construction for 3 full years. Yet, at this point, I would take anything and add this year salary to free up room to look at our other options (Valera, Martinez, Noel, even Rodriquez -- who can wait w 3 options, etc.) ...

YES... definitely worthy of consideration.. If Serwinowski was substituted.. that would work as well.. Whoever the DBax would prefer for the full rights to DDLS...

I wonder if someone like Tena would make sense for the DBacks?

Hmm...

Huge overpay...

Well not my full idea...

I kind of wanted to move Tena and Straw, but end up with rights to DDLS and OF Barrosa...

Barrosa would give us a solid 4th OF since he can switch hit and is a plus defender and would essentially take the 4th OF spot long term. He just hit 23 years old so he also has time to improve his game...

This would allow in 24, to clear up the OF with Kwan, Florial, Brennan and Laureano on the bench...

In 25, Laureano would be replaced by Barrosa...

Jorge Barrosa??? that little shrimp is a throw in.. not a primary part of a deal.. Bat Boys have a better chance getting ML time than him..

A huge overpay is better than this "Fool" idea..

Barrosa is known for his plus defense and plus batters eye... I mean a 15.9% BB rate in AAA with a 16.3 SO rate... He's a perfect 4th OF since he hits switch and has plus speed...

Look at his numbers... everything is there to be a solid big league player... Not like I am trying to make him a starter, but a 4th OF

I am looking at moving Straw, and getting him to replace long term... Creating the room to keep Florial plus keep DDLS long term. We have Tena's replacement in house, plus he's going to be blocked here anyways.
