Should we sign him IF Manzardo isn't making the MLB roster?

Sounds like the ChiSox are sending Dylan Cease to the SD Padres.
With that news and the new of G Cole going to be on the shelf for a month or two I have to wonder if the remaining Boras FA SP clients will now find homes before the end of spring training...

The CWSox are getting a quantity of prospects.. and all that the word "quantity" implies..

@Tondo ane anyone else who wants to chime in...

RH OF Peyton Burdick just got DFA'D... Should we have any interest in him?

He's definitely got power and he still has an option left for this season...

Burdick turned 27 and in almost 1K PA in AAA at age 25/26 his wRc+ is 94, barely hitting over 200 with Krae over 30% at the level.

That's a no for me

His OBP% and SLG% weren't too bad with the HRs, but I saw the rest and I was like eh... But he is a RH OF with pop... I agree I don't think he's got a good all around game to take a MLB flier on... MiLB sure...

OK, so you sign him to a minor league contract. Where does he play? How many AB are you willing to take away from guys like DeLauter, Valera, Rodriguez, Martinez, Brito and Noel who are all supposedly playing OF?

I say quit fucking around on the fringes. If you're not going to get a legit bat then leave it alone and let it play out. You want to take a flier on a guy then take a flier on a SP or two and/or a C. You know, things that we might actually need at some point.

His inability to take contact would sour this FO on him; that being said, I'm willing to cut Myles Straw to add a spot for him.

No. They’ve embraced hard contact-low contact types this spring. Plus he’s got a higher MLB contact rate (SSS) than those currently on hand. Hey, somebody wins the Powerball jackpot:)

So, should we begin the trade deadline potential???

For sure
Bieber
Barlow
Laureano (time for DeLauter)

Potential
Karinchak (with Walters and Aleman, less room and relievers are usually high demand)
Straw (BHC said that teams only like him if 1-2 years of service ... this gets to 2.5 years at about $16 million -- add a few million in trade)
McK -- with 2+ years remaining, he is signed long-term or can be traded now and get 2 AAA/AA starters in return

Wait and See
Naylor (resigning) -- Got to wonder if DDLS pick (and now keeping him) when we had Manzardo had anything to do with preliminary contract extension talks (will know in 10 days if they got him signed long-term)

Needs
SP, SS, back-up catcher .... Think with all this, we will have a pretty good 2025 roster.

Just an idea...

Cleveland gets
LHSP Joe Whitman (SF)
INF/OF Norby (Bal)

Baltimore gets
SP Mason Black (SF)
RP Tanner Burns (cle)

San Fran gets
SP Bieber
(Possible cash or PTBNL)

Thoughts? @Gson @CDAV45 @petes999 @Tondo

Let's say the Giants want Bieber, but they don't have the hitting talent Cleveland wants, but they have nice SP prospects... Swapping Black for a bat like Norby, Then using Norby plus another SP prospect... I like Whitman and he's a local kid in a sense.. To get Bieber...

I like Whitman, but he's a recent late 2nd rd college pick far from MLB, basically Hajjar at the time of the Benson trade.

Norby is overrated. Decent bat, but he's a lesser version of what we already have in Juan Brito and he's somewhere between Brito and Bracho as bat/defender profile. He's superfluous and a bad fit in our system.

Pass... Bieber is worth much more than these two journeymen.. alone
