2016-2017 Indians Off-Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It needs to be Trumbo first...he's the one who will get the most money, so once we see what he gets, we can go from there.

I just want Encarnacion and Trumbo to sign somewhere so that the market can shake out and the Indians can find their guy. I think many teams are waiting to see where his price point ends up before committing to the Napolis, Carters, Linds, Mantos, etc.

On paper I really want a Encarnacion over a Napoli since he will be a better player when it comes to offensive numbers. If we don't sign Encarnacion we need to sign Napoli since he is well liked and puts up the same numbers as the other guys. I know we shouldnt limit ourselves to that many choices, but we cannot just sign someone to sign someone that is a waste of money. Unless it is a guy who is going to make an actual difference then we have to go a different way either via trade or from the farm. We really do not have a big difference maker at 1st in the minors, but maybe moving guys around that could good at first (aka a Diaz to first).

Eh, I think Turner really set the market now with the contract he got from the Dodgers.

Turner's deal isn't a good enough clue IMO, not when you are talking about 2 completely different positions/markets.

It sets the value you'd expect for the remaining big names, but we have to see other deals to see if other factors played into that figure.

Goddamn one of these power bats needs to sign already...

I want to talk about OFs to platoon with Naquin and relief pitchers...

Might as well discuss, though I'm sure, like myself, your OF targets depend on whether we sign Nap or EE.

Same boat as you two.

I really, really see Almonte/Naquin being a platoon in Tito's eyes, though. If there's one thing that he is it's loyal.

I wouldn't mind that, with Abe being a switch hitter and being able to play all 3 spots. But if they can add a more proven MLB bat who they feel can play all 3 spots, I'm sure they won't hesitate to bring one in since Abe has options...always think its smart to look for upgrades, even if its just an upgrade for 1 season.

Guys I'm looking at, it won't really effect them...at least I don't think, judging by what Antonetti and Chernoff have been saying.

Still think we are heading into the season with CF concerns, as well as some LF concerns with not knowing what we may see from Brantley. Means I think they are going to spend a decent chunk on an outfielder this winter as well to protect their asses.

At this point I'd be okay if they found a way to land Angel Pagan on a similar deal to Rajai's deal last year (5 million plus incentives). If his asking price ends up being a little steep (which it could IMO), you can fall back to a bunch of guys like Rasmus, Revere, Gutierrez, or Austin Jackson who will be looking for prove it deals to re-up their value a bit, or turn back to Rajai himself. Maybe even a Desmond Jennings gamble, though that'd be a last resort kind of thing for me.

Also think we see some more MiLB deals with Spring Training invites tossed at OFs as well...really hoping one of them is Justin Ruggiano...dude is a perfect platoon OF to go with all of our left handed hitters, but just can't stay healthy for some reason.

The move that will depend on the price tag of the 1B/DH that we eventually sign will be the reliever we sign IMO. By what everyone around the organization is saying, it sure sounds like it will be a LHP, and after seeing what Rzepczynski got from Seattle, a high price tag from a 1B/DH takes us out on the better guys like Boone Logan. I'm hoping the price on someone like JP Howell stays relatively low since he's coming off a poor year, for his standards. He's a good rebound candidate, especially with some of his personal problems behind him now.

But I'd also want to take a flyer on a cheaper, injury questioned starting pitcher as well. We've heard they want to add starting depth from the front office, and we know they won't spend the capital it would take for a healthy proven guy just to add depth, so it would have to be a lower paid low risk/high reward guy. Think Tyson Ross is too pricey to be considered that. But Henderson Alvarez is a free agent for a 2nd year in a row, and is healthier this go round. Rubby de la Rosa has great stuff but hasn't put it together and has some health questions as well. Those guys could be had for cheap. Maybe even toss a 2 year deal at someone like Nathan Eovaldi, who will be out all of 2017, but can rehab under the teams guidance and contribute in 2018.

Really hope they exit the winter checking off those boxes, plus the inevitable 1B/DH move. Nothing too flashy, but good depth and nothing too long term on the books. And if the risk/reward starter gamble we make pays off, could put us in position to move some of our upper level starters for help at the deadline...looking like we'll have a bit of a logjam there shortly.

Almonte is actually out of options, he has been out of them since we got him. So he either makes the ball club or is he a free agent probably. I am thinking if we do sign another OF bat it will be a Davis, someone who brings a different element than what we currently have. We will only be getting guys who are signed to one year contracts since we don't wanna commit long term since we have Zimmer, Allen (maybe Diaz) all likely our future OF gonna be at AAA by the seasons end. Naquin to me has to prove he still deserves to be up here, you cannot just hand the spot to him. He is the one with options still and could be sent down if he has a bad spring. The holes in his bat were exposed late in the season and he has to fix that. Plus what happened to his defense? In the minors that was what he was known for and we didnt see that skill all year from him. At the moment Chisenhall and Guyer are the only sure bets in our OF. Almonte, Naquin have to have good springs or they could be off the team for next season. We don't know the Brantley we will have and no one in the minors is Major League ready outside of Diaz who didn't look the best numbers fielding wise in the OF. The potential though is there that we do not need to go get a pricey veteran but bringing in a guy like a Davis/Crisp who can help out would be a smart move for next season

Almonte has 1 option left.

Davis would be a poor re-sign IMO. Good if other options go elsewhere, but a poor option right now.

Notice how I never said I want to give out multi-year deals to these players? Notice my other post...I listed most of those names because they are guys who I think sign 1 year deals...

Got an alert from ESPN yesterday that says the Indians are interested in Justin Morneau.

That's only of we don't get Encarnacion.

Is he still a good defender? I wanted him here two years ago.

I don't believe anything that involves a LH hitter to platoon with Santana...doesn't make sense to me.
