2019 Cleveland Browns Regular Season

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Dolphins placed S Reshad Jones (chest, ankle) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Fellow DB Bobby McCain (shoulder) was also placed on I.R. Jones has battled multiple injuries this season, including chest and ankle issues on top of his history of shoulder problems. Turning 32 in January, this essentially ends Jones' 10-year run with the Dolphins after being a fifth-round pick in 2010. He was once one of the league's better safeties prior to the shoulder injuries.

We were great in the red zone last week.

Simply looking at the results, yes 3 for 3, but I don't think they necessarily turned a page or anything like that.

1st TD- 1 yard QB sneak. Correct playcall and execution. No complaints.

2nd TD- Chubb stuffed for 1 yard loss. Chubb 3 yard gain. Bailed out by 3rd down pass interference on Joe Haden with Baker throwing off his back foot from the 16 yard line. Next play was the TD to Landry, which was a great play call. Multiple players open on this play, which has not been a common occurrence.

3rd TD- Poorly thrown fade to OBJ. Chubb stuffed for a 4 yard loss. TD to Carlson on 3rd down. Call it a dumb pass or a great pass, it doesn't really matter. This isn't a slight to Baker or anyone, but the play was reminiscent of a Johnny Manziel college TD.

Didn’t even think it was a bad throw on the fade. It was Odell or no one.

In the end it was 3/3 in the red zone. Keep complaining though.

Where exactly am I complaining?

Not really sure what the point of the post is then.

See it was Kbiz I first responded to.

Either way going 3/3 is going 3/3 no matter how you break it down or get there.

The point of my post is the Browns are still a disaster in the red zone and the circumstances in which they went 3/3 doesn't ease my mind that things are going to get better.

Although Njoku should hopefully help.

“Disaster” but went 3/3 last week.

That simply does not define disaster to me. You can go through every team in the league and they aren’t scoring on the first or second play in the red zone every time down.

They got it done and had 100% success in the red zone last week.

Willing to bet a lot that trend only continues with the horrendous opponents still left on the table for the Browns.

One game doesn’t make or break a trend. Throughout the season, we have been terrible. We may finally be trending up, but we still have shit on our shoes as opposed to stepping it in barefoot. Better, but still shitty.
Njoku is arguably our best red zone target and him coming back is literally the best thing to happen.

If we consider ourselves relatively high football IQ football fans then this is simply not the case.

Yes they successfully converted all 3 red zone trips last week. I'm elated by this and it's something to build on.

But claiming that it doesn't matter how you break it down or how you get there is simply incorrect. We should be looking for sustainable improvements if we want repeatable success. I'm not arguing whether or not anything from last week was sustainable, I'm just arguing that disregarding circumstances is not a smart thing to do.

Then go a step further and start comparing the way they got it done and the “circumstances” in which they got it done to the entirety of the rest of the leagues teams.

That’s the only way you get a fair shake utilizing that vantage point.

These 2 3rd down plays just don't inspire a whole lot of confidence. Line immediately gets bullied by 4 rushers, Mayfield on the run. Haden bails the Browns out on the 1st one. Baker makes a hell of a play on the second one, risky throw or not.

Meanwhile this 2 TE/2 RB/1 WR set was probably the best red zone play we've run all season

I'll try to put some GIFs together of last year's 2nd half of the season red zone offense

Oh God you fool. Bringing context into anything will make you a nitpicky hater who can’t be happy or give credit

What have you done

The reason I posted that is because based on all the training camp tape I watched, Baker went to Njoku A LOT in red zone drills. It was apparent that he was going to be one of the primary targets in goal line situations and losing him likely has hindered our success in the red zone this season.

With that said, Freddie has had all season to adjust to that and he hasn't.

Man, how fucking bad is Chris Hubbard?

Not to excuse Teller, but that's simply unacceptable by Hubbard on those plays. Weak and poor technique.

Undoubtedly awful. With that being said, TJ Watt is a monster
