2019 Cleveland Browns Regular Season

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He’s still paced for over 300 carries.

That’s insanely high volume.

That's good. He deserves every carry.

I will still lament his lack of use in the 2nd half of the Steelers game and the 1st half of the Bengals game. It was shitty then, shitty now and will remain shitty until Freddie is fired.

To me I am not sure you fire Freddy unless we have a complete collapse to end the year or if he has lost the lockerroom. If we finish 8-8, that would mean we played 6-2 the last 8 games of the year. I think you go into the offseason and replace the coordinators, focus hard on the offensive line and safety positions and give him another year.

Anyone on about the whole thing that Freddie doesn’t give Chubb the ball or run it enough can go away now.

It’s a false narrative.

Nobody is making a blanket statement that we just haven't given the ball to Chubb enough times this season. Nobody with a brain who is watching the games.

People's problems are the situations we decide not to run it are completely idiotic, and hurt the team, and it's obvious to a Pee-wee level understanding of the game.

Most of the time when people are bewildered why we aren't giving the ball to Chubb it's because he literally just tore the defense a new asshole the play or the drive before. It's perfectly appropriate to give the ball to Hunt instead, as he's more than capable of getting 1 yard in 4 attempts just like Chubb is. It's the insistence on going 5 wide with no quick hitting routes in these blatantly fucking obvious give the ball to your elite running back situations that get people fired up and clamoring for more Chubb. There's absolutely no reason other than incompetence because Hunt's presence eliminates the only other one - Chubb needs rest. There's pretty much no drop off from our elite RB1 to RB2 on this team and the way we use our personnel is a fireable offense.

Ultimately I think this is what happens (although I'm fairly certain that Wilks will get another year) but I really wish it didn't. However I think Freddie needs to get him someone who has the same philosophy as himself rather than trying to expand his horizons. This team is so much better when going from 12/21 than it is from spreading the field. The Monken/Kitchens hybrid is an abomination that deserves to be put out to pasture.

I agree. Even more so if we keep Hunt.

I think Freddie will get another season but keeping Monken would be a disaster. We need a game plan that better suits Baker.

I agree, at times we look good, but then we try to run to many deep routes. It is crazy the difference between last year and this year. I feel the biggest thing is last year we ran a very simple offense and had a lot of options for Baker for check downs and short throws. I really wonder if there has been to much focus on OBJ vs just running plays. I will note, Laundry has looked great that past 4/5 weeks.

Maybe giving OBJ what he wants and trading him would actually help the offense by getting them to focus more on the running game.

Very real possibility the Browns finish with their best record since 2007 but this team has just been very un-fun for the vast majority of the season.

Crucial offseason to right the ship.
Crucial but the blueprint to success is there - if executed correctly (will be easier said than done).
  1. Coaching changes as needed (at minimum, coordinator/position coach changes but explore the possibility of cleaning house with this staff)
  2. Invest heavily in offensive line
  3. Pray to God that with offensive line upgrades + coaching changes comes a much improved Baker Mayfield and a return to offensive cohesion.
If the aforementioned do not fix the issues, we could be looking at sweeping changes in 2021 starting with the quarterback... I'm still optimistic that the right coach would have this roster competing for a conference title.

True. For me, it's less about the volume and more about the circumstance.

Freddie, on more than one occasion, has chosen to ignore the run game when he should have been pounding it down their throats. And then predictably, it's almost as if he decides to call more runs to try to make the volume end number look better. I couldn't care less if the final number is 26 or 23 attempts - just make sure you're capable of judging when the defense is struggling to stop the run game.

You don’t want to wear Nick Chubb out though.

Now with Hunt sure you can say that, but Hilliard couldn’t spell Chubb, and giving him 25-30 carries in a game will put too many miles on his tires.
