2019 Cleveland Browns Regular Season

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Tend to agree with @Triplethreat here. Chubb's usage had been fine all year up until the 2nd half of last week's Pittsburgh game and then the 1st half of this week's game.

If I could nit-pick Chubb's usage pre-Hunt, I think they could've used him in the passing game more. Chubb is super dangerous out in space and we do not capitalize on the strength because we seem to struggle blocking on off tackle runs, IMO.

You don’t want to wear Nick Chubb out though.

Now with Hunt sure you can say that, but Hilliard couldn’t spell Chubb, and giving him 25-30 carries in a game will put too many miles on his tires.

I don't exactly have confidence that if we had Cook, McCaffrey, Barkley, and Chubb, that Freddie wouldn't be running 5-wide shotgun the entire game still.

100% agreed with this.

He needed to be utilized in the passing game more. However Hunt is overall much better in the passing game so it’s really a moot point right now.

The videos the Pats have been producing are pretty sweet, FWIW.

They did one on their nutritionist who is a former military guy, discusses the food production and scale in which they feed their athletes.

Great stuff, honestly.

Bengals probably thought it was illegal to have anything more than two scouts, to he honest.

That's real by the way. The Bengals have two whole scouts. For the entire organization

There were several instances earlier in the season though with the game on the line where Hilliard was inexplicably in the game instead of Chubb on 3rd/4th down in must convert situations and he was given the ball and failed. In situations like those where converting might get you a win and we did not use Chubb, failed, and lost...one has to wonder why on earth if we're actually going to run it would you sit Chubb and give the ball to Hilliard, who up to this point in his career has looked like a practice squad player. Freddie's explanation in his post game interview was, I shit you not, "Hilliard is our 3rd down back." Okay... And we all remember throwing 4 times with an empty backfield to decide the game against the rams instead of trying to give Chubb the ball even once in the red zone. Does the guy have any situational awareness at all?!

My gripe with Freddie isn't that he's neglecting Chubb overall, its that he's made multiple decisions where we either convert or lose the game and Chubb is watching us snatch defeat from the jaws of victory on the sideline. Being used in those key plays would have only added approximately 8-10 more carries to his season total, but very well made have added 2-3 wins to our season total as well. Chubb is a guy who gets better late in games when the defense is worn down, yet that's when we seem to see him the least. These reasons are why people are so baffled and upset about Chubb's usage, not that he's statistically not getting enough carries. It's mostly WHEN he gets them (or doesn't).

Freddie got better about it for a stretch and we all thought he might have learned from his mistakes. Then Pittsburgh and Cincinnati happened and it sure looks like he's going back to what wasn't working. And we're all just wondering why, because it doesn't make a lick of sense.

If Chubb has a weakness it's in short yardage situations near the goalline. Kareem Hunt appears to be a far more versatile option there but it was a definite weakness through the first eight weeks. In fairness to Hilliard he punched in a couple of short yardage touchdowns earlier in the season (Titans and Ravens games).

Nick Chubb cannot carry the ball on every down. It seems like some fans won't be happy until he's absolutely run into the ground.

Completely serious question:

Is there any reason to throw the ball more than 20 times right now, based on what you've seen from the passing game.

I would say that with Hunt now back, we have a lot of ways to win by the threat of running the ball or running the ball with either of them.

We can utilize Chubb at the right moments and even use him slightly less, and still be more effective.

We now have the offensive personnel to do what worked last year, but Hunt >> Duke. Let’s see what we can do these last 3 games.

That said, I am not optimistic. Beating Cincy in a game we were outyarded by 100+ by a differential essentially equal to a pick 6 is not grounds for optimism. I can’t say it’s the “we figured it out” game.

We have made a TON of mistakes this year. Even the easy-to-count ones like penalties and turnovers don’t do justice to the way we have been beating ourselves.

The game in Phoenix looks like it might turn into a shootout.

You can't convince me that the Pats were on the up-and-up. FFS, they're filming the team they are facing next freaking week.

Let's just say, if the Browns don't get your benefit of the doubt, I don't want to hear your benefit of the doubt RE: Bill & the Pats.

Strong is specifically pointing to the Browns preseason training regimen -- claiming the team ran an "unheard of" 30 straight padded practices ... which took a serious toll on the players.

"We played a full season in camp. The real season is here and they are already behind the 8 ball. Hamstring issues at DB? That’s just saying they’re being overworked!!!!"

As for Strong's case ... the WR claims team doctors knew his body was suffering from the intense camp -- "my knee swelled up day after day" -- but he was never offered a recovery day off.

"We get to week 3 of preseason and I can barely walk," Strong says ... "I was dead ... body legs etc."

The Browns ultimately cut Strong on August 27 after he performed poorly in a preseason game -- but notes, "the Browns knew why I looked and felt the way I felt after making play after play in camp for 30 straight padded practices."

Blaming the overly "intense" training camp seems more like a criticism of Freddie than anything. And a criticism by a scorned player who unfortunately didn't make the final cuts. Grain of salt?

Basically what we've heard is that Hue ran too much of a cupcake training camp and Freddie ran a concentration camp.

I dunno...I remember mic'd up players chatting on the sidelines in a preseason game about how well-prepared they felt because of the intensity of Freddie's training camp. Now that the season is lost it becomes some huge issue.

I'm over this season.
