2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
22 points on 9-10 FGs. 3rd qtr just started, kid has a type of arsenal that's going to be all star worthy in 4-5 years.

If he doesnt mess up anymore-It looks like we traded Porter for Thomas

It doesn't matter if he becomes Jordan. No talent is worth the what happened to Koby Altman
how do you know that’s true? you have an article about the situation?

100% agree

I just don't understand, why so many people are blaming Koby for his fuck up...When Koby and the organization tried to help him,he didnt want their help...They even had him on the sideline during a game to see,if he would act right and that didn't work.

If,people want following him that's cool but to say the organization made a mistake or blaming on Koby is ridiculous.

Most teams would have dropped KPJ quicker than we did but somehow we team gets criticized for it.

Nobody never questioned his basketball ability but folks really think it's okay to disrespect your boss like he did.

I always side with the players on most issues but KPJ was wrong in this situation.

I've said this in other threads but Koby wanting to operate outside of NBA norms didn't help the situation. It's also something that won't help the Cavs as an organization going forward if he keeps doing it. The NBA is a players league, like it or not. That isn't going to change anytime soon.

If players can get away with more in other organizations and not feel the same consequences, they will just push their way out. They all talk together and very few show loyalty to a team. The Cavs don't have anything to set them apart with a top tier coach, GM, or player. The city isn't a destination city and doesn't seem to have a good rep by NBA people.

JR won a ring with the Lakers, KPJ got to another organization and is playing, Drummond is going to go to a contender.

What did he do that was outside the norms? Sounds to me like he went above and beyond what most teams wouldve done when it came to kpj

Most teams just fine and/or suspend a player for a certain amount of time if they deem it necessary to do so. Usually they just waits for the courts or the league to punish a player instead of doing it themselves. They usually just want to get it over with and move past it.

Koby creating benchmarks and a indefinite timetable for KPJ to come back was out of NBA norms. Koby telling Drummond he was demoted and would be coming off the bench during pre-game warm ups isn't usually how teams deal with a demotion. They usually do it at least the day before and have a private conversation about it to smooth it over.

It's a players league, players are softer than yesterday, you have to be careful with player's egos... or you end up saying here Houston take a problem child that has a lot of potential and of course he'll persevere. This team will go nowhere under Koby. No vision, no plan in place, good pick with Collin tho. Traded for Nance but that's about it.

KPJ is an immature headcase who will break the hearts of the GM and fans of any team dumb enough to put their faith in him.

He's got "self-centered ass-clown" written all over him.

Well this thread is going about as well as I imagined. Funny how when we look at KPj some people say when playing bad "see what a mess he is" and when he plays great "he's selfish it won't last".... Yet when Garland played bad they say "guys, he's so young, he's gonna have rough games" but when he's good, "look at the potential".

Anyways this isn't an that surprising... The fans reaction, or Kevin's playing.

What is weird to me is just how messed up our organization has seemingly been run this year. It'd be one thing if it was just one story, but basically sidelining Drummond and Porter for months... What quality NBA front office has anything even remotely similar? It just feels messy.

Calling out selfishness in the NBA is a weird concept to me too. We are talking about a league full of some of the most selfish, spoiled people on the planet. You don't have to go far at all to hear crazy tales about the players. Unlike a lot of sports where there are 50 plus people on your team and are wearing masks and hats, the nba rosters are much smaller and everyone is completely exposed. It pretty much is what it is.

And how can you blame cavs fans for being upset losing 2 of the best players we had this year for nothing... Actually worse than nothing as we had to pay a bunch of money to do it too help the Lakers and Rockets...

It's a players league, always was, always should be, and probably not even enough really considering other people profit more than the players on it... But I digress. The point is, maybe a mirror on the front office is worthy.

Not sure why I wrote all this, but happy Monday! Ha.
