2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Add a 14 Ast and 4 TO game to his season of dimes. The what if card will be a fun one in 5 years. Vs a damn good Suns team too.

Maturity and growing up and becoming a professional will determine how far Porter goes. The physical traits were always there, just a matter of wether he could over come his demons and personal issues enough to develop his talent. The raw talent is there, but that alone won't be enough to have a successful career.
Was really excited about that draft being the start of a Turing point in the rebuild, but it's looking like Garland is it.

There is no new ground to cover here.

Talent was ALWAYS apparent and ALWAYS known. New games of excelling don’t provide any info we didn’t know back in August.

The question is simply how much was going on behind the scenes, what was done for him and provided for him, was it enough, was it more than enough, and could/would he have ever gotten his shit together here. As well as what sort of positive and negative influences, both intended and unintended, he would/could have had moving forward on the court and off the court.

They didn’t decide to move him as a function of a choice of a different player on the roster over him. They believed, whether correctly or incorrectly, that nothing more could be done here to make him get his act together while in Cleveland. Baked into that decision was the knowledge that there were long term scenarios in which he could/would succeed at his second or third stop.

No matter how much info we get from Ben or from nba writers, we’ll never truly know all the details of his time here and whether or not those details warranted the belief that moving on was the only solution. With him not being a member of the team, I dont get the obsession of blasting off hot takes every time he has a great statistical game or a bad statistical game. The assessment and potential mistake was based on the analysis and belief of things far beyond 82 games per year on the basketball court. It doesn’t become any more of a mistake or any more of the right call based on his nightly on court performance.

14 assists. WTF.

Stop, read in Studio 34, you have access Koby had no options, none, this was on KPJ, the fact he couldnt even give him away except to maybe a team or two is all you need to know how troubled the young man is. I hope he gets his head straight in Houston, he has the right GM and support staff there to do this.

KP must be a really really troublesome, egotistical and/or dumb guy. I haven't got any idea of what happened in the day to day with him, but given away his talent because he doesn't belong to rainbowland hurts a bit. We will see if he can become a long term NBA player, but the whole thing is... strange

It’s been discussed ad nauseam. He had red flags and that’s why he fell so far in the draft. He likely came in on a short leash from the start.

Cavs set out a framework for him so that he couldn’t operate under. Whether the framework was right or wrong is a totally different discussion, but from the outside it seems the Cavs told him what they expected of him and he couldn’t live up to it.

Maybe getting let go from the Cavs is what he needed to straighten himself out. There’s no real way of knowing. It’s also far too early to tell if it was a mistake. It could be years before we actually know if Koby and the FO made the right decision.

Also, there’s a strong possibility that KPJ being gone has actually helped the development of Garland, Sexton, and Okoro, which could potentially outweigh the benefit of having him on the team.

Dude was an asshole.
Lotta other dudes said "fuck this dude"

We got a protected second for that, we good.

May not have a #1 option on the team. Cavs have no business thinking their organization is strong enough to toss away talent. In fact, it's delusional.

There are too many examples of NBA stars having too little maturity have a positive impact on their organization to count.

Even the players who do come back from being toxic personalities ALWAYS do so on another team.
