2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

I aint mad at KPJ, others were there, but its a bullshit headline.

He is fined $50k for violating the health and safety rules. Others have been fined for the exact same thing and exact same amount.

He happened to potentially save Sterling's life WHILE breaking protocols.

Good for him for doing what he did once he left the bar, but he shouldnt have gone out in the first place. That said he did far worse things in Cleveland.

I'm sure we'll be seeing some level-headed takes in here tonight

All of the people saying we should have somehow found a way to keep KPJ are going to be so damn annoying but also I agree with you completely

This is exactly how I feel. I love the kids game, you have to build a system for him. He did some dumb shit we know about and probably more we dont, but we put up with 3 years of Kevin Love's pettiness at 30M a year. We dropped the ball on this one.

Honestly, I'm happy for him. If he continues to be a rising star and is able to curb the off court issues, great for him. It wasn't going to work out here and it sounds like it wouldn't have anywhere but Houston where they had the appropriate resources.

People who are mad at the Cavs for trading him really need to get over it. It's unfortunate it didn't work out, but frankly I wonder if us rerouting him to Houston was not in fact the best thing for him. And any armchair GMing from posters on this board is nonsense. You weren't there so you have no idea how things were behind the scenes. Just accept the reality and move on.

People say that the Cavs wouldn't have been able to get KPJ under control but Houston is showing exactly what other teams do to make sure they stay on the players side. They didn't suspend or fine KPJ themselves, they let the NBA throw down that punishment. KPJ responses to that with a 50 point and 11 assist game.

The Cavs never needed to impose punishment to KPJ. They should have allowed the law and the NBA to do the punishment. Teams need to stay on the side of the player, that's just what the NBA has evolved into. That doesn't mean hiding what they did or helping them get out of it. Just take a hands off approach to what they do off the court, let the law or the league punish them and be the bad guy.

Cavs are the new Browns in town.

Culture, guidance? Cavs need to clean house.
I said early on that the Cavs FO didn’t have anybody that could relate to the kid. That’s why he couldn’t get and stay on track. I still agree with the decision to move from him but this does show that the Cavs FO lacks in “real” leadership
