2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Man, is déjà vu real? Because that's what I feel while reading that board: the same "stans", the same plebeian panic and passion, the same fruitless urging to reason and calm...

This Is all just a simulation, isn't it?

My favorite part is the one dude who called Green "the next Corey Brewer"
that the Cavs are starting out and defying the odds with their unconventional line ups and winning on good basketball habits...

...meanwhile all those people who were in my ear talking about "you need a tall shooter who can break the offense apart" and slurping the archetype that the "experts" want NBA teams to have are getting ethered.

maybe too soon for schadenfreude but I love to see it

He's a sixth man at best, you can never rely on a guy like this to be a major contributor to a winning team. The Rockets are trying to make him a starting PG, he can barely lead his own life, how is he to be expected to lead a professional basketball team?

Green's lack of length hurts him. He needs to build up his body quite a bit. Secondly, he needs a real pg who wants to hide behind him, like a D.Garland. I would be opened to trade him to Houston if Rubio would resign and the deal would net the Cavs an athletic wing prospect.

He's got quite the trend going. His FG%, 3pt%, and TS% have gone down each year since he's been in the league. So has his assist/TO ration, which is now below 1.

But I'd guess that KPJ thinks he's the best PG in the league anyway, and he'll go fuck up anyone who says otherwise.

I feel pretty bad for him and Green. They're both just being set up to fail, as neither one is a PG that can set up a team's offense and both would greatly benefit from playing alongside a capable vet.

Seen a couple of Houston's games, and they are just a bunch of chuckers. Was tough to watch, and reminded me of the worst of the worst we've seen from the Cavs...they might even be lower.

To me he looks like a ticking time bomb, he seems one frustrating moment from doing something really bad, like punching a ref or a even a teammate. It's just a really fragile situation for him, being on a bad team with little veteran leadership.

I don’t even think he’s a sixth man at best. That a role that requires maturity and leadership. He’ll bounce to one more team, will fail there and then be out of the league.

Not exactly Porter related and a long ways to go, but there's a chance the Cavs give Houston their 26th loss in a row on December 15th.

The Cavs had a 26 game lose streak in 2010-2011, which is still tied as the most losses in a row within a single season and set the record at the time (Philly lost 28 in a row from 2014-2015 to 2015-2016, they also lost 26 in a row in 2013-2014. Trust the process).

Edit post Chicago game 11-24-2021:
This didn't age well. Oof. Garrison Matthews put an end to this scenario.

Porter spends more time complaining about the refs than Drummond. He quits and ends up
behind plays repeatedly. Watched a recent game when
the Rockets were blown out by the Suns and Porter was shown joking it up on the bench multiple
times down the stretch.

He doesn't have the game to come anywhere close to overcoming the negatives of
his body language.
