2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
From todays' PD:

“It felt good out there,” Porter said. “They put me in a lot of positions to playmake for the team. I feel like I could’ve done better, but I did that well tonight and it was fun.”

Hmmm...

Portee absolutely looks like the best prospect on the team going forward. He has real nba size for his position an above average athletic ability and his jumper, currently, is ahead of schedule, though I still worry it could fall off the earth.

Gets a little too caught up in the moment sometimes but with time he could be a terror running side pick and rolls.

Yeah keep waiting, you are probably going to get jewed.

Like I said to your wife, "I got mine, who cares about you?"

So spiteful and vengeful today Lee. You need to go get high.

I dont want garlands minutes reduced, especially not for delly. But it is obvious need to split sexton and garland as much as possible

I agree with that. But play Garland with KPJ as much as possible. Garland and KPJ play well together. Don't play them together less.

I think he's going to be a good one for the Cavs...if he stays on the team and not traded away.

I thought that decision tree went like this:
IF PLAYER X BUSTS: It's all Koby's fault. He doesn't know shit about basketball.
IF PLAYER X EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS: Anybody could have seen that X was going to be a player; Koby doesn't get any credit for him.
Coby might have an eye for talent but he's not good with trades. He can't get good value for our players until he proves it.

He turned 38 year old Kyle Korver into Burks + 2nds. Then flipped Burks for a first. Among other trades. The 2nds from the Burks trade were key to the KPJ trade. It was Those 2 2nds + Another 2nd + The 2nd we got from Heat for DWade that was never gonna convey. He's gotten value if you follow the trail for some players. No GM is perfect and he was thrown into the job in a shit situation.

Yeah, he did well last year and the Clarkson trade was also decent. This year’s market seems pretty tough, though. I hope people aren’t expecting AD, PG or Russ type value for any of the Cavs’ trade chips. Those were all very unique and special circumstances.

How’s his efficiency
It's actually not bad. He has been solid from inside the arc most of the year. Shooting 51% from 2 and eFG% of 50%

Much like Garland before the small slump. He has consistently improved his shooting.

TS% by month

October 37%
November 48%
December 57%
January 56%

The biggest reason his TS% raised is improve 3-point shooting.

3p shooting by month

October 12%
November 23%
December 37%
January 45%

Earlier in the year a few of us was concerned with his shooting beyond the arc considering how well he shot it in college but it's been on the up.

I agree. I like his work so far, he's trying to squeeze assets out if every situation.

His overall 'asessment' would be entirely different had we won that one extra game in 2018 and were sitting here with Doncic. All of sudden hed be well respected instead of 'clearly being in over his head'.

I love his handle. He also clearly wants to move the ball if it means creating an easier shot.

Playmaking is underrated. I think it is an area where Beilein can really help him along with shooting. He seems to be making an impression on Collin too. I am starting to get what Beilein has to offer. thought he coached a good game last night and he has shown he keeps hot guys in at the end.

I agree with Rich. Porter is really oozing with talent, and might have the highest ceiling on the team. His reported work ethic is great to hear. I have also been super impressed with him coming back from injury. He looks great, and seems to absorbed the game while sitting on the bench. He has a higher IQ than we were lead to believe. No wonder Koby loved him so much. Like, he might be better than when he got hurt. that is fantastic.
