2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Cavs have all of these young talented players. The question is will they put their egos aside and play as a team. At appears one of the small guards, Sexton or Garland is going to have to come in off the bench, if Porter Jr, starts.

With Windler and Wade in waiting, they may not need too much to be a competive team.

The big question to me is whether the defense is real. If they can actually play defense like this, then they can be a playoff team in the bad east next year. If they can't and they continue to be in the bottom 5 defensively, they will struggle.

Really the offense hasn't been that bad all year. It is just that they can't stop the other team. What we have seen the last few games is the defense feeding the offense, and it makes them look way better offensively. They were capable of that before, but they weren't getting the buckets they are now getting off stops.

It just looks like every young guy was being held back by Beilein in that they could do more. It looks like he didn't have the buy in of the vets, and now they they have bought in for bickerstaff, they are able to compete.

I'd love someone who is familiar with NBA defenses to break down what is going on because the defense is night and day, and the 3 guys that really struggled on D Porter, Darius, and Sexton are actually making an impact now and the vets are helping them.

As far as Windler goes. If he can play like he did in summer league and put up a bunch of 3's really quick, it will change the dynamic of this team. They really need that sort of spacer right now, and it would greatly help Darius break down the d, and Sexton would get to go wherever he wanted, Porter too. I keep thinking of a Porter, Windler, Cedi rotation. Big and long

Lol, literally the same. KPJ should start growing a beard for good karma.

I'm a little surprised. I heard what Harden was doing in OKC at the time, but no one is really talking about Porter JR. The basketball heads seem to know whats up.

Still, I would not have believed he was doing better in assists than Harden was at the same time. Also, better efficiency from 2 is a surprise.

Even so, Harden is a one of the guys who has improved the most of any player I have ever seen. He just got better and better and better for a long period of time. It will be difficult to make that sort of progress for anyone. Not a bad place to start tho.

The Thunder were a playoff team in Harden's rookie season. People were tuning in to watch Westbrook and Durant so it was easy to notice Harden.

This is because he's on the Cavs.

If there was someway he could meet up with one of the greats this off season and find out how hard you have to work to be the best he could be. He has that much basketball talent and the only thing missing is the will to be a franchise player. Needs to get stronger this off season and work on cutting down mistakes, playing with fire and being more aggressive, but the possibilities are there. Overall about as good as you can ask for in his rookie season.

My apologies if this topic has already been discussed. But should KPJ be starting over Garland? KPJ seems bigger, better defensively and better suited to play SG. He’s also having a much better rookie season.

Garland seems to be a natural PG and might be best suited to come off the bench for now as the reserve PG, until he gains more experience.

If,not Garland..Cedi for sure.

I'm thinking the Cavs see Garland as a 1, Porter as a 2, and Sexton as a swing guard who can play either position depending on which other guard is on the floor. That way the three of them can divide up the two positions and each play 32 minutes a game.

It means Garland and Sexton would be on the floor together for 16 minutes out of 48 if they divide the minutes evenly.

MPJ has better size and has more skill. KPJ is a better athlete and isn't a 21 year old with a bad back. I would take KPJ over MPJ. MPJ may end up with a better peak but KPJ will be at his peak longer then MPJ.
back problems at 20... the good news is backs never act up once they heal, never.

He's a very undisciplined player who gets rather emotional when he isn't on.

Cavs need to be careful in how they coach him. I think he's gonna be good, but make no mistake, his floor is low, particularly for his talent level.
