2019 FA and Offseason Mega Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Draft picks in the NBA are so overrated. I don’t think OKC made out very well at all.

I think this opens up real possibilities for Love to get dealt to OKC. I feel like Presti has to do something to appease Westbrook otherwise he has every reason in the world to demand a trade.

Thing is though, I still think they have to find a 3rd team that benefits from this as Adams will most likely have to be apart of any trade to match salaries..... but the Cavs have no reason to take him on as we need to continue the tank another 2 years. Some teams that pop up that are “near” contention that need a center are MIA, SAC, BOS, DAL, SAN

Problem is, I can’t see OKC trading him to anyone in the West so it could get complicated... maybe something like

OKC gets: Kevin Love
CLE gets: Bazley, 2021 MIA 1st, 2022 LAC 1st, future SAC 1st?
SAC gets: Steven Adams

I feel like somewhere in that ballpark could potentially satisfy all teams.

I think OKC is going to blow it up. They likely see the reality that a Westbrook led team won't lead to success. Adams and Westbrook might net decent returns. I don't think Presti is the type of GM who will want to be on the mediocrity treadmill like OKC is currently on. PG13 had 2 years left on his contract, trade demand or not he could have kept him. The fact that he sold PG13 and discussed Westbrook with Raptors leads me to believe he wants to start from scratch.

I don't know how it would work but I could see the Knicks trying to trade for Russ. At least he'd sell tickets for them.

They have draft capital to trade for him but they can't match his contract until all the FA they signed are trade eligible. Also it would be a Knicks kind of thing go draft a guy who can't hit 3s (Barrett) and pair a stat padding chucker who can't hit 3s (Westbrick) together. It would be fun to watch the Knicks collapse even more.

OKC now has the best war chest of assets that the world has ever seen.
Yes, that was a truly amazing trade by Sam Presti! You can argue that he got a better haul for PG3 than the Pelicans did for AD. He used the Clippers desperation to extract a truckload of assets from them.

I don’t think the Thunder go full-rebuild. I think they give it one more go, with Westbrook & Adams, and try to rebuild on the fly.

It would be a nice fix for their terrible offseason. Especially if they got Adams too.

I think Presti just saw so little flexibility in his roster to make it better. They didn't have assets and it's a roster of flawed role players. They really didn't have any 3&d players outside of PG13.

I think the reason he was so willing to move PG13 was he knew it would give him the flexibility to revamp the team. I think they also were willing to move both Westbrook and PG13 for a trade build around Siakam because they see all-star potential in Siakam. He would create a draw to get people into the sits in OKC.

I'm not sure they move on from Westbrook without getting someone to draw people into the arena. OKC is such a small market, I'm not sure they can afford to have a bad team without young exciting talent.

I think if they can move off of Adams that they will do it. Adams making $25 million just limits their ceiling because of the decreasing value of non 3 point shooting big men who aren't switchable in the league. They can go only so far with Adams as their center.

Well I'm not crazy about his game SGA is a young exciting talent. Russell likely wants to stay regardless of who's playing with him. Russell just wants numbers. Less talent around him the happier he is. I truly believe that.

But I really think Presti intends to blow it up and start from scratch around SGA. He knows where Westbrook can lead him (First round exit in back to back years with a top 5 SF in Paul George playing next to him). Presti is a smart GM (Aside from Harden who he had to trade for $$$ purposes). He sells when the market is hot. It is kind of funny though he turned Serge Ibaka into SGA, Danilo, 5 firsts, 2 2nds, 2 pick swaps.

He is a good GM but their ownership is cheap and that was the main reason why they traded Harden. If I'm Presti I would be scared to see what the ownership would be like when they aren't good and have low attendance numbers. SGA isn't a player that will bring alot of people into the arena. They are two years out from any of those draft picks conveying.

I do think they will see what the market is for Westbrook but will want alot back. Like if the Knicks want Westbrook, I bet Presti is asking for RJ Barrett plus alot more.

I mentioned the $$$ being the reason behind the Harden trade. I know Presti didn't want to trade Harden. SGA might not bring a lot of people to the arena but I doubt the team will this year. The fans know they won't be winning with just Westbrook. I can also guarantee Westbrook's market won't lead to a prime asset like RJ Barrett being the center piece. Hes a guy that can sell some tickets but most fans know hes a stat padding chucker. Which also means most front offices know hes a stat padding chucker. His value will likely be less then AD or PG13. I think he ends up going some where no one expects. But I do think he will be traded before the season starts.

Minnesota wanted D'Angelo Russell. Maybe they find a way to trade for a different Russell.
