2019 MLB Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If anyone doesn't think this team is going to bring in a budget middle infielder to compete with and take at-bats away from young players, then you haven't followed this organization very closely.

This is ripe for a light-hitting grinder that replaces Kipnis. Or even Kipnis on a light deal if his market is non-existent.

Right now with the way the market has been the last few seasons, I could see a guy like Gennett taking a 1 year/5 mil type of deal next season since they market for the multi year deals may not be there for him next season. Also maybe a Howie Kendrick as well since he would want to sign with a contender at his age and go for a ring.

Now that I am thinking about, Kendrick is likely to be traded to someone here soon. I wonder if the Indians should look into him, since he wouldn't be expensive and could easily fit into this lineup in the lineup somewhere. He has been batting mostly 5th in the Nationals lineup. He would be a rental target if we don't feel like we can afford to move for Mancini and he can play a few positions in the INF still. (Also get Kipnis out of the lineup against lefties lol)

Well I think I have my targets all setup!

If going controllable player- Mancini
Rental- Kendrick
Bullpen arm- Sam Dyson

2 of those three at the deadline! lol

First and foremost, I don't think he is really all that available. With that said, Merrifield is someone I could stomach overpaying for. I'd just like to hold onto Valera and Freeman.

The only drawback is he is 30, everything else about him makes him a perfect fit for the Indians. Primarily a 2B but has positional flexibility, dirt cheap salary with 4.5 years of control, great contract hitter with fantastic speed on the bases, etc.

Anyone reading this Bauer for Frazier stuff? We would need to get much more than Frazier imo, as his value really isn't all that high but he's a RH OF with a lot of control and I wouldn't mind cashing in on Bauer as long as we can replace him with Kluber or Carrasco.

I would think Frazier’s value is higher than it was when he was the center piece in the Andrew Miller trade.

Maybe him+Garcia would be a decent framework.

Although, I’d rather wait until the off-season to explore potential deals involving any of our starters.

I wonder about that. He's years older and still has kind of stalled. He shows potential with the bat but his defense has been horrendous and he has strikeout issues. He obviously has some value but I think when we traded him he was ranked around #25 in all of MLB prospects.

Still, he hit 11 HR in 53 games and had a wRC+ of 117 at the age of 24

His AAA numbers are not encouraging this year. 1 HR in 15 games and 73 wRC+. Makes his MLB numbers look more flukey and more around league average.

I guess if we were to acquire him the question would be more in the lines of a vision for his future success. Do we hope he somehow turns his defense around and becomes a competent MLB outfielder, and combines that with a progressing above average bat? Do we hope he progresses to the level of someone like Nick Castellanos where we are willing to put up with his bad defense cause his bat is good enough? He's still kind of young, maybe there is some value into converting him into another position like third base.

Obviously I don't have these answers. I barely know about the guy. But I do wonder what a reasonable projection of an average WAR value, for example, would be like. At the moment he seems basically replacement level and the market has to be huge, even for a slightly struggling Bauer.

I don’t think anybody will be looking at his AAA numbers in 15 games this year when determining his value.

As far as his defense goes, no reason he shouldn’t be better. He was never atrocious in the minors. My guess would be that he improves over time.

I think if we're assessing this year, we should expand our sample size to include as much of this year as possible, especially that which exists in the most recent timeframe.

Or if you'd just like to focus on MLB, Xstats have him at .252/.302/.443 this year, as opposed to his .283/.330/.513, which are the numbers of someone benefiting significantly from luck.

His feuds with the New York media probably don’t help either.

I also have a concern about his concussion issues. I hope we look elsewhere as I am not a fan of Frazier.

The issue is that I don't see Frazier as much of an upgrade over Bauers or Mercado offensively so I'm not sure why we'd add him into what's already a logjam in the OF.

The Indians also have Daniel Johnson knocking on the door in AAA plus Nolan Jones in AA who is probably a corner OF (or 1B) sooner rather than later as well.

I'm not opposed to adding an OF bat but I'd want someone who is a clear upgrade over what we already have. Just don't think Frazier is it.

Depends what we give up for him as well at the end of the day. We need a right handed bat in the lineup though so he isn't a bad fit in that sense.
