2019 Series #34 | Indians @ Royals | July 25th, 26th, 27th, and 28th

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You'll also be written up and/or fired. I know, because I did it. And yeah, it's pretty much bullshit these people are not held to the same standard when they have thousands of times more visibility and make just as much more than the common man. I love Bauer, but frankly, today was my breaking point with him. He blew up during the playoffs last year. He's either lights out or gets shelled. He needs to go.

I'm might get written up, but I wouldn't even sniff getting fired. Sorry that happened to you.

And it might be bullshit, but it's reality.

I'm not really sure how you can hold last year's playoffs against him when he clearly wasn't 100%, and he was being used in a completely different role than he's ever done before as a pro.

Your view of him either being lights out or getting shelled just isn't based in reality. He's actually been very consistent this year, being near the top of the league in quality starts.

He's 9-7. If by consistent you mean he's either off or on 50% of the time, then you're 100% correct.
Where's the listing for non-quality starts? He's certainly at the top of that list too.

And you don't have to be sorry about my problems, even if I was a main component in bringing home a game which sold over 10 Million copies, it really doesn't matter when they feel you're just a cog and they can replace you (hey, the company no longer exists so I guess I won!). I shouldn't have brought myself into this because it doesn't matter.

What matters is our season. I like Bauer a lot. He's just not capable of being the guy and it kills me to say that.

You lost me at "he's 9-7"...a pitcher's record is almost meaningless except to the pitcher themself and Cy Young voters.

Bauer is 7th in all of MLB in quality starts, FWIW.

Funny when pitchers lose their cool, and they throw at hitters. Seemingly not that bad. Bauer just throws the ball over the wall, and the entire sports world is shitting themselves over it.

I thought it was funny as hell Tito came out and goes "What the fuck is wrong with you" and Bauer immediately pats him on the shoulder "that's on me, my bad". That was funny. I laughed when I saw it.

Bauer had a shitty day. Look all the really bad breaks he had before that. I can't really blame him for snapping a bit. He lost his shit there.

He didn't take it out on anyone. He apologized. He owned it. But fuck no, I'm not upset with him. He made a mistake, but hardly a big deal at all.

From the game story in the PD:

Before Francona emerged from the dugout, Bauer chucked a baseball into the netting behind home plate, apparently dissatisfied with the condition of the ball. When the 28-year-old righty saw Francona approach he spun on the mound and flung the second ball high over Mercado’s head and off the green brick wall 440 feet from home plate.
I laughed

He's currently tied for 7th in the majors with 15 quality starts out of 24 starts. That's the 16th best percentage of quality starts with him sitting 1.5% behind Shane Bieber. Verlander and Cole are tops with 17 each, and Ryu leads at 85%.

A pitcher's record doesn't provide any context for how well a pitcher actually performs. It's pretty useless to throw a record out when arguing a pitcher's merit.

Personally I'd feel incredibly confident in any series where we have healthy Bieber and Bauer pitching games 1 and 2.

Just as powerful as starting an argument on a pitcher's worth by using their record. Marcus Stroman is 6-11 - can't believe the Mets even wanted him!
Where are the Met's going? Oh, that's right, they'll be trading a starter by Wednesday.

Sure, okay. Kevin Millwood had a great season here at 9-11. All I'm saying is Bauer either blows up or pitches a gem. Do any of you want that going into the post season? Especially Game 1 or 2? I don't.

And I'm telling you that this statement is not based in reality.

BTW, Kevin Millwood DID have a great season here.

Also, the last time Bauer took the mound for us in a game 1 he had one of the best postseason performances by an Indians pitcher in recent memory.

Comparing professional athletes to regular workers almost never works. But if I was incredibly important to my business' success as Bauer is to the Indians? I'd probably have to apologize, accept a minor form of discipline, and then we'd move forward.

How is that even a comparison, right? They're playing a competitive sport. Emotions get the best of EVERYONE! I don't care who you are, except maybe Kluber? He's just wired different. But seriously, I guarantee everyone at some point in sports has a bad moment. It's just very rarely displayed out for all of us to see.

I think we all agree he shouldn't have done it, but its hardly a big deal. He didn't hurt anyone. I thought it was cool that Bauer one, didn't show up his manager after. Apologized to everyone. I never once believed he was showing up his teammates when doing it. He was frustrated over his day and outing there.

He had a really bad day. I feel for him. He's sick, he had some really, really shitty breaks. It's hot as hell. And he lost it there. We as fans should have some compassion for him. People make mistakes. He handled it very well. To me its all good.
