2020-2021 Cavs Season General Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just to sum up the key takeaways in the first half, the Cavs ranked...

30th in points per game
30th in percentage of 3-point shots attempted
30th in percentage of points scored in 3-point shots
27th in percentage of 3-point attempts that were successful
30th in turnovers per game
29th in free throw percentage

The news was pretty much all bad on offense. The second half has to be all about reducing turnovers dramatically, taking significantly more 3's, and increasing the percentage made.

“Twos don’t beat 3s nowadays in this league,” Garland said. “So, just trying to shoot more 3s and try to get as many good looks as I can. And I’m just trying to get everybody else more 3s as a whole. We have to shoot more 3s. Early on this season, we weren’t; we were shooting all 2s. Coach came in and said 2s aren’t going to get it done anymore, so just try to get people involved and keep playing my game, really.”

Defensively the only area where the Cavs are really deficient is defending the 3-point shot, where they rank 29th in opponnents' 3-point percentage.

“Our ability to bounce back, our ability stick together through adverse times, to me that’s the most important thing,” Bickerstaff said. “I expect us to continue to grow coming out of the break. We started to do some things better. There’s still room for improvement. Hopefully, at that point, we’re a whole team, and we get a chance to see what we look like as a healthy roster and see where we need to improve in that area and how good we possibly can be.”

Nance, Allen, Wade, and Love is a good front court. I don’t believe they can stay healthy all at once but I would consider having Nance play some at the 3 in a rotation that brings Windler in at the 2 to help with spacing.

But the real winner is you bc all of these posts were awesome! Thanks for the contribution!
Much appreciated. I do this for myself because I want to understand as best I can what is going on with this team and why they win or lose, what they're doing well and badly. I post what I find out just in case anybody else is interested.

I know that he HAS, but why not try something that might click? You know like playing Dean Wade in a role besides occasional mop up minutes. See how that worked? Did JB and the rest of you see the possession where Windler kicked it out straight behind him to Dean for a beautiful assist and 3 ball? Dean said “I knew that was coming. That’s what he likes to do.” You know that’s a thing called chemistry.
Fair point. Context would simply be that there is a long line of situations and coaches, some better, some equal, and some worse than JBB, who have taken much longer than 30 games to work in a young UDFA into the lineup. Like it is critique worthy but it just feels like people are going way overboard to extent that theyre acting like it’s unforgivable or that it doesn’t happen around the NBA all the time.

Dean will have some tests too, As he makes it on to oppossing teams scouting reports, he’ll have adjustments to make. Sounds/seems like he’s the type who can handle that though.

Spencer Dinwiddie has a player option for about twice the MLE...why would he take a paycut, voluntarily, by half to come to Cleveland as a backup?
1. NJ is that bad
2. He wants to be first in line when our excellent foodie scene starts back up
3. Secretly engaged to Allen.

I agree mostly. That was a good post. It’s just hard when you know the background and have coached for 40 years and can see the caliber of play going on in games and know the potential riding the pine. And you have to wonder if anybody was watching in shootarounds and the dab of practicing that’s done in the NBA.

1. Theyre in Brooklyn...
Technically the MLE for the 2021-22 season will be nearly $10 mil. Dinwiddies player option is for $12 mil so the MLE is not half of his QO. Unless he is debilitated by the injury I'm fairly certain he opts out for the long term security.
With that said there were apparently some rumblings he was unhappy with his role in Brooklyn this season. Who knows...I don't think it's totally out of the question the Cavs could land him in FA if they give offer him a long term deal. Hell Jerami Grant signed in Detroit this past offseason even though Denver by all accounts was willing to match or beat the offer that Detroit gave him.
