2020-2021 Cavs Season General Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don’t like the wording Marla used
Sidelined all season?
Is he not playing the whole season or does she mean so far this season?

weird tweet

My guess is that the Cavs still want an asset for Love and teams don't want to give one up. I think the Cavs are in a hard spot with Love because they probably know that Love could play through alot of the injuries he has been sideline with in the last couple years but other teams won't risk taking the Cavs word on that.
I don’t see any way to move Love. Who would want 30 million a year on their books through 2023 for a guy who can’t stay healthy and is not the player he once was even if he is healthy? We can’t even move Drummond at that price on an expiring. I don’t think any of our 3 PF’s, Love, Nance & Wade are going anywhere for at least the next 2 years, but all three are staying for different reasons.

I think she meant so far this season but they need to look at other options at this point. Not having a vet guard on the roster that play specific roles is hurting the development of our young players and possibly hurting roster decision making down the road.

Quinn Cook could possibly give more to help develop Garland and Sexton than Delly can at this point. Being able to have Garland and Sexton work on certain parts of their game on and off the ball, needs a combo guard like Quinn Cook who can knock down 3s while also running the point. Delly's 3 pt shot was completely broken last season and hurt floor spacing when he was off the ball.

Also looking towards the trade deadline, the Cavs may have to drop a couple players depending on the deals they do. Delly looks like he could be either on the chopping block or at least someone you would drop to pick back up after other players were bought out.

If Quinn Cook plays he role well, it makes Delly and Dotson expendable, which creates some extra roster flexibility.

Love for Aldridge straight up makes too much sense for both teams. Surprised there haven't been any rumors about that.
Why does it make sense for San Antonio? Aldridge right now is playing at a level similar to Love's, except of course that Love isn't playing. If they don't want what Aldridge is giving them, why would they want to pay another 60 million for Love who if ever healthy would give them the same thing.

For those who think the Cavs or any other NBA teams actually “practice” through the year.... when do you think the players get back after the All Star break for a game Friday at New Orleans?
People don’t realize that almost 85% of a NBA practice is game film watching the other 15% is walkthrough and “light” scrimmage.

He got bought out
He didn't get bought out. He's in a similar position as Drummond's, he's agreed to stay home while the Spurs look to trade him, though in his case it seems they've agreed to a buyout by 3/25 if no deal is done.

There has been a ton of friction between the Spurs and LMA for years. A large part of it was his reluctance to shoot 3s -- something that Love has no problem doing. Add to it that LMA has looked completely washed this year, and I think you can make an argument that Love, contingent on him actually getting healthy and returning to the court, is both a much more impactful basketball player and a much better fit in the modern NBA.

Pop wants to win. The Spurs are currently 7th in the West. LMA I'm sure has little to no value, and dealing him straight up for Love may be their best basketball option.

I think Love and/or Dre can be moved but it’s all about what Koby wants or is unwilling to take back in contracts. Do not buy Dre out unless he pulls a Blake and gives back like 15 million. I’m almost 100% sure Love gets moved in the off-season.

Last year gave the Spurs 18.9 and 7.4 a game while Love put in 17.6 and 9.8. Aldridge actually had a better 3 point percentage at 39 versus 37. Though neither is much defensively at this point, Aldridge did get over 1.5 blocks a game while Love averaged a block a week. I don't see a much more impactful Love.
And while I agree Aldridge hasn't looked great, at least he plays. He's played 70 or more games every full season since 2014. Love can't get on the court and he's missed huge amounts of time almost every year for the past 5.
You think Pop wants to pay 60 million more for that??

Or wants to watch him with the ole’ defense?

Quinn Cook to Cleveland

Brian Windhorst: Cavs are planning to sign guard Quinn Cook to a 10-day contact, sources told ESPN. Cook, who got his NBA start with Cavs’ G-League team in Canton, played 16 games for Lakers earlier this season.

I think it would make more sense to pick up an Andre rental.. would certainly have a bigger impact if in fact spurs want to win.. But we don't make that trade without an asset coming back.. first round pick, or young forward..

IF we did get that trade.. Drummond and a future first for Aldridge, ( maybe swap prince for kieta bates or similar) then we could also move McGee for assets, as Aldridge can play back up minutes at center and forward..

Then we turn Love into whatever we can manage..
