2020-21 Offseason Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Anyway.
Pittsburgh just DFA'd OF Troy Stokes Jr. to make roster room from their trade. He's 25, probably no better or worse than what we have.
But might provide depth. Meh.

Are you trying to start another argument? If this is FO trying, I would say pass. I honestly think the needed backup is in the FO assumption that HS SS can be turned into anything.

Between Mercado, Johnson, Luplow, Naylor and either Rosario/Miller, we will patch work this for now. And, I actually thought of this but he hasn't hit over .233 in AA or AAA for past 2 year. Bradley hit better than that at same age. Thus, rather give him a chance and keep Naylor in LF.

I would love if we could snag Eddie Rosario. He's a pretty good player overall.

I believe they're combining the entire Dolan Family together.. Including Charles Dolan.. the founder of Cablevision.. Larry was not a part of that fortune.. I could be wrong..
Larry had a lot of shares he sold before Cablevision stock collapsed before he bought the Indians. That said, yes, everything I see is 'Dolan and family' being worth over $4 Billion.

Also, Charles isn't included in 'and family,' as his net worth is over $5 billion.

EDIT: I seem to remember the Dolan family trust is what purchased the Indians, or had some part in the purchase, and this trust was with Larry and his family, Charles has nothing top do with it.

He could easily fall into the 1 year contract 'wait for next year' to sign a longer term contract. Also, he rakes at The Jake

Im not against brining in guys and seeing what they can do. If the team brings in Stokes, then I am all for it since they have scouts and guys who are more than likely watching all of these guys play. He has decent power and speed, but doesn't have much else in my opinion, so I personally wouldn't say no.

I also dont get the hate around here for Clement. I get he has no power, but honestly all he does is make contact while not striking out. I saw comparisons to David Eckstein that I believe to be correct, plus he does have experience at 2B, and played CF in college. He has won over a lot of the coaches it feels like from everything I have saw. I actually see him being a long term utility guy for this team at the end of the day, since on paper he actually should be able to play just about all the INF and OF positions. He will never have a high OPS, but his batting average should always be fairly solid (above .260).

@Andrew Scheid

To be honest, you did go way too far... we don't need to name call. I don't like AZ much, but his baseball knowledge is top notch...

Also I have to side with him on this argument.

We have more wins than any other franchise in baseball in the last 8 years. We had our payroll in 17 up to 150 million, and we have been putting 90 win seasons together. I would put very good money on the FO did try their best to keep Lindor, but when Harper and Machado signed their deals, it really stated what Lindor would sign for and between Sherman leaving and covid hurting the money income as well.

The fans didnt show up when the indians FO put out a very good product, so between that and the fact baseball hasn't made a hard cap to keep down the prices of free agents, we werent able to keep Lindor. For Dolans it is still a business and honestly they aren't taking in a ton of money especially lately. They didn't go in the red, but they went into the red for what a business normally tries to return. That part is on the fans, not on the owner. I am normally a person who sides with the workers, but in baseball I am siding with the owners at the moment since the price of free agents has gotten so high, its very had to get to a ball game for a fair amount of people without it being a mini vacation.

I would like to bring in Eddie Rosario to play LF, otherwise someone like Amed Rosario will have to play in the OF. We have to move one of the INFs to the OF it feels like.

Coach, there is no "hate" for Clement. It's just perfectly clear to many of us that he just isn't that good, especially in an organization so deep in MIFers. I'd also agree with Pete that obtaining this many MIFers and thinking you can just plug them in somewhere else is nothing short of stupid IMO. This lineup is unappealing to fans, extremely unappealing and I don't know the original source of the blame between the Dolans or the fans. I believe that you need to understand the market. You need to understand what brought people to the park when you set a record for consecutive sellouts. It doesn't have a f'n thing to do with the Browns either. You don't just piece together something every so often and think that you'll have loyal fans in any market. You need a very good pitching staff to go deep into the playoffs, but that's not what most fans go to the park to see. They want to be entertained. They want excitement. They want to celebrate big moments. Pitching duels and shitty offenses don't do that. Unfortunately, it matters how you win in Cleveland. The relationship between the Dolans and the fan base is severely damaged, and looks to be beyond repair. If it is not beyond repair, putting Ernie Clement on the roster isn't going to help matters.

If your talking about 2021, isnt that dependent on what happens at 1B & DH???

If your talking beyond 2021, I could see one or two of the minor league INF getting moved to the outfield. Mainly so some players get regular at bats/ playing time in the minors.

I think Bracho will move to the OF starting this season. I'm not sure how the "arm" ranks among our MIL prospects, but I do know Freeman and Palacios probably lack good ones, but that would be an indicator I would look to for who moves to the OF in coming seasons.

Let's look at four guys.. Bracho, Freeman Palacios and Gabriel Rodriguez.. These four have Palacios as perhaps the most capable of playing the OF.. Palacios has a SS's arm (pretty good one) and the wheels to go get the ball.. He's like Freemen w/r to Baseball IQ.. perhaps jedi-like as he appears to get jumps on balls before they're hit.. Defensively, these tools are why players become extraordinary OF'ers.. Freeman's arm, like Bracho's is average.. no more than that.. but, Freeman makes transfers from glove to throwing hand like Omar.. Gabriel Rodriquez has the best arm of this quartet.. and is no slouch running.. Given what's presented here.. I'd say, Palacios and Rodriquez as OF'ers.. with Freeman and Bracho staying put as middle infielders.. primarily 2B.. Thoughts?>.

Hmmp. I always thought the knock on Palacios was his arm was poor, only good for 2nd.. Gabe Rod has already been playing 3rd - which means next stop OF. Freeman is lining up as our next long term 2nd baseman.... Rosario is trending into the OF(if he can hack)/Super UTIL territory after 2021.

Also Bracho isn't known for his defensive capability and is still in search of a true home.. That usually means LF or RF.
