Who knows if IP is the silver lining. Because we still really don't know what Carrasco is capable of while dealing with his illness.Could this be a blessing in disguise? If he misses significant time with this injury and recovers fully, would that not limit his IP significantly? Sucks he got injured, but maybe it prevented something worse? I doubt they'll rush him back.
He goes out in '19, '20 is shortened and now this. So we haven't seen Carlos even attempt a full seasons workload since '18 and that was before the leukemia diagnosis and when he was 30 not 33. Mostly what we know is that he will not ring the bell every fifth day. And for starters, that is one of the most important things - durability.
You see it all the time, pitchers with less stuff getting the starting role (because they have a track record) versus the young stud nipping at their heals. Major league seasons are marathons and arms that can withstand the grind get premium dollars. I think Carrasco, and Kluber both sit on the wrong side of that need now. Probably one of the big reasons they are not in Cleveland any more. Having to pay for redundant parts as insurance against starters going down is expensive. Something Cleveland doesn't like.
