2020 Assistant Coach News

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You guys are quick. I was going to mention Alex Van Pelt was very close with Rodgers and Rodgers threw a fit when he wasn't retained. He sounds like a guy who could connect with Baker.

Other than that, I certainly hope Stefanski is very involved in game planning. I was hoping for a more seasoned addition there.

I’m fine with stefanski calling plays since passing game coordinator. He’ll probably name Callahan run game coordinator Seems like he’s going the Shanahan route.

I’m really growing to disdain this guy (?) who continues to hide behind an alias and won’t attach his name to anything:

Funny... He *retroactively* takes credit for having knowledge of 4-5 OC candidates yet never reported it - while simultaneously knocking the hire in one, fell swoop.

Amazing.

Why was this guy hired? Being a good QB coach does not necessarily make someone a good coordinator, just like being a good coordinator doesn’t necessarily make you a good head coach.

Yep, I'm hoping this isn't Rodgers being a prima dona just because he wasn't consulted. I want to believe Van Pelt really was critical to a good string of All Pro selections in Rodgers' prime before some injured seasons began to stack up.

Fun fact: Van Pelt was also quarterbacks coach/ Offensive Coordinator for year one of Fitzmagic in Buffalo. The Magical Bearded Wonder is a free agent, and his previous OC is receivers coach.

I called him out on his BS on the OBR forum. It’s amazing how brainwashed his followers are. He’ll mention someone’s name in passing along with 100 other names then when something like this happens they claim he knew about it. It’s amazing.

I wonder if Stefanski sees Van Pelt as more of a good fit with Baker and expects to be heavily involved in the offensive game planning himself such that an experienced OC isn't as important as fixing/righting Mayfield.

Do we know anything about Van Pelt’s philosophy outside of Aaron Rodgers? What’s he good at? Why is he a good hire? Bad? Etc.

I was hoping we’d poach Terrance Newman. Whatever I’m sure this guy is fine.

Don’t know much about him but given that our DC is historically a DBs coach, as long as they work well together I’m not worried about the quality of coaching and technique the DBs will be receiving
