Huge......what a boost to the Buckeyes. I'm kind of convinced Davis and Wade scripted this....put pressure on Big 10 to get this shit done. So much props to Shaun Wade's father and Justin Fields.
I think that's exactly what this was, and I even mentioned it the other day when they opted out.

They were clearly tired of the B1G's act and wanted to make a statement.

Perhaps they wanted to make a statement, but why would that matter? I'm not sure how 2 OSU guys saying they were going to skip the season would put pressure on "no" school like Michigan to vote to have a season. Makes sense that it would put pressure on OSU...but OSU was already in favor of having a season anyway.

I agree.

If they holdup was other Universities' P/C potentially not wanting to play, I don't see how OSU players declaring for the draft affects them. Imagine Rutgers P/C saying, "Well, I don't think we should play in October, but now that Shaun Wade and Wyatt Davis won't play in a winter/spring season, we must play now"

I think it was more about forcing the B10 to make A decision. They've been on the fence for weeks now, and if the big players all opt out, then the decision is being made for them. I don't think those two alone make a huge difference, but if the top 3-5 players from every team follow suit, then it's a problem should they finally decide to have a season.

Was there any indication that was being discussed? Including Wade and Davis, only 21 players officially opted out, and some the biggest names (Parsons, Moore, Bateman) all did so before they cancelled/postponed the season in August.

I guess it possible players were privately telling their P/C they were going to do that, but that seems like a stretch.

Pure speculation on my part.

I believe it was coordinated with Day and Gene Smith. Also speculation on my part, but the Big 10 was on the fence for so long, as Wyatt Davis and Shaun Wade announced their decisions to go the NFL, citing lack of communication from the Big 10, I think it helped nudge the Big 10 to come to a decision.

It's interesting neither guy actually signed with agents, even though both have them picked out. And Wade actually gave a date of Wednesday for a decision from Big 10, and he happened to get it.

Maybe it's all coincidental, but I tend to think Ohio State was trying to influence a decision and apply some pressure.

We are set up perfectly to run the table and reserve a seat at the playoff. Only two real opponents, Penn State early and Michigan late, then win the conference for a seed. No PAC and we were clearly contenders last year so I don't see us being left out unless we drop a game. Honestly almost feels like the conference didn't want to risk our season since we're the true threat, so great to dodge Purdue and Iowa.

Do we think it could be an undefeated matchup for The Game? Very much looking forward to the Penn State Halloween game.

I don't see any way Michigan is undefeated entering The Game. They probably have the toughest schedule in the conference. Bet they have at least 2 losses by that point.

My initial reaction to people's initial reaction, is this is a weird year, and I don't think any game should be taken for granted. Weather is going to be a huge factor, and as good as Fields is, our passing game will be neutralized based on the calendar. I think our schedule is more challenging than people are giving it credit for.

There also is the added variable of a positive Covid test perhaps resulting in a key player or players missing games.

That’s true. With a 21 day quarantine period, any star player who tests positive will almost assuredly call it a season and opt out. That’s 3 missed games.
