2020 Buckeyes Football

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
To me the rule should have been, a team cant miss more then 2 games caused by themselves. So OSU is punished because 2 teams could not put a team forward? I could see the argument if OSU had to cancel 3 games because of COVID.

Arguing a team with a worse record and lost head to head getting is why people hated the BCS.

Those teams played the same amount of games and isnt comparable at all.

OSU will have played three less games than IU. Three games is more than 50% of OSUs schedule dude.

And if Ohio State hasn’t chosen to cancel one of its games they wouldn’t be in this situation either. IU lost to Ohio state by 7 points and had the ball with a chance to tie on their last possession. If Ohio State had blown us out then sure, I’d see your point. But they didn’t. The conference put this rule into place to account for a situation like this. If they were just going to change the rules if Ohio State didn’t play enough games then IU would’ve been better off canceling.

If they’re going to change them anyway, why not change them to have IU and Ohio State play in the title game?
I disagree. The goal of the rule was to avoid teams canceling games to get a better ranking. Not hold back teams because other teams had issues.

And if Maryland hadn't ducked us while choosing to play Indiana, this wouldn't be a scenario.

We can play what ifs all we want. The facts are OSU beat IU AND has a better record. Arguing a team with a worse record and lost head to head getting is why people hated the BCS.
You left out the most important fact. The conference made a rule requiring teams to play 6 conference games to be eligible for the title game. IU has met that requirement. Unless OSU finds a replacement game, they won’t. You want the rules to be changed because otherwise your team can’t play in the title game. I’m just arguing that the conference should keep the rule it set at the start of the season. It’s not outrageous to expect that.

Yes, 3 games is definitely more than 50% of 8

Why not have flexibility? The whole point of playing in COVID is to be flexible. You would think you want to do what is "fair". Had IU not lost to OSU, then I could see the outrage. But OSU is the clear cut best team in the East. Even if we lost a game, because we beat IU we would still get in.

Ohio State also had Covid issues of its own leading to a canceled game. I mean, look. In two of the last three seasons Ohio State has gotten blown out against an unranked team. In 2018 it was Purdue and in 2017 it was Iowa. There’s no guarantee that that wouldn’t have happened in one of OSU’s three canceled games this season.

This is also a rule that was made up on fly and not for teams that had cancellations due to other teams backing out. It's an arbitrary rule that is hurting the conference, so they will amend it.

OSU hasnt played 8 games... They have played 5.

three games is definitely more than 50% of 5.

If we are basing who should in the B1G title game based on what happened in 2017 and 2018, I don't think that's a favorable outcome for Indiana.

But their schedule isn't 5 games. It's 8.

How much money does the Big Ten get if it sends a team to the playoff?
