In the first case, I am sure bowl teams would take this into account, and most of the time, Wisc will probably get the better bowl, not because of record but because of the brand.
In the second case, that teams one loss would have been to Wisc, as the B10 is still doing divisions and Wisc is facing all the other teams.
I'm not sure how much latitude these bowl games have, but a lot of these bowls are set-up already as like 4th place SEC team vs. 3rd place Big Ten team.
As for Wisconsin, think about it like this. Wisconsin goes undefeated, 7-0. Nebraska goes 6-1.
But Nebraska never got their chance to play Wisconsin and win the division.....see the problem?
If Nebraska beat Wisconsin this weekend, or Wisconsin forfeited the game, that's two 7-1 teams with Nebraska beating Wisconsin head-to-head. They'd win the division.
And that's just the easy example. There are others wherein you COULD have ended up with three-way ties where each team beat the other IF Wisconsin had either played and lost, or forfeited the game.
