2020 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Mock Draft: Stefanski Addition

Cut (Cap Savings):
Chris Hubbard ($4.1M)
Morgan Burnett ($3.5M)
Terrence Mitchell ($2.3M)
Eric Kush ($1.8M)
Taywan Taylor ($975K)
Wyatt Teller ($440K)
Olivier Vernon ($15M) - Possible restructure

Sign:
Brandon Scherff - G - Washington - Zone blocking animal that stabilizes the right-side of the line.

George Fant - T - Seattle - Versatile lineman has played both spots. Teams with Scherff to form the new right side

Ant Harris - S - Minnesota - Big money year for him, Browns can pony up to bring him over as a culture changer and starter.

Stephen Weatherly - DE - Minnesota - Depth DL that will help potentially replace Vernon.

Draft:
*Browns trade 10th overall to Denver for the Broncos 15th overall, a 3rd rounder and 4th rounder

1 - Mekhi Becton - OT - Louisville - Absolutely massive dude with ample athleticism at just 20 years old. I don't believe he's the lump of clay others think it is, he can use his lengthy limbs and strength to have his way with rushers and is tough to get around. Monster in the run game.

2 - Ashtyn Davis - Former track star has crazy athleticism for the position and will test well. High SPARQ guy, but has some excellent football intelligence on the field. Not the best ball skills, but can be an asset in coverage or run support, much like Harris.

3 - Darrell Taylor - EDGE - Tennessee - Super bendy player is underrated in a deep EDGE class, will pair with Weatherly and Thomas to replace the production of Vernon opposite Garrett.

3 - Quartney Davis - WR - Texas A&M - Elite get off and short-area-quickness, would be extremely tough to match up with in play action with time for plays to develop. So many wide receivers in this class are draftable, this is a guy who I think would go higher in most years.

4 - Thaddeus Moss - TE - LSU - Undersized for the position, but his combination of blocking and receiving skills are SO impressive for a young player. NFL pedigree and excellent season in 2019, he'd be an unbelievable get here.

4 - Ross Blacklock - DT - TCU - Came back in 2019 after missing all of 18 with an Achilles injury. Super twitched up dude playing out of position at TCU where he played NT.

6 - LeVonte Taylor - CB - FSU - Way undersized, but this dude blew me away early in his career with his talent and athleticism. Think he develops into a nice Nickel guy and force on ST.

7 - Tanner Muse - LB - Clemson - Played FS in the Clemson system, I think they take him and develop him as a WLB to take advantage of his skills.

Can anyone think of a successful parallel to Burrow......just from a prospect sense?

I'm really failing to think of a guy who basically was prepping to be an insurance agent 24 months ago, suddenly looking like a near perfect NFL prospect.

How is this even possible?
The elite college QB starting as a freshman is a new phenomenon.

he did start all last year and was not bad, especially considering LSU has for decades had some of the most regressive clunky passing games in all of college football.
This year an innovative young Playcaller/offense designer came in with advanced NFL concepts and Burrow, a smart coaches son that was a 4 star prospect just thrived. The weapons and athletes have always been at LSU. Just never utilized in a progressive modern way.

Please please do not trade down if one of the top OTs are on the board! I can’t imagine one of them won’t be there at 10.

For the sake of this, I assumed Thomas and Wills were both off the board. I'd likely take Becton over Wirfs.

They're gonna trade down, you know it, don't you? Just so they can see media heads explode and the 550-page thread on the other site about ANALYYYYYYYYYYYYTICS!!!

{/sarc - just to be safe}

Wirfs is a mega prospect if they continue to be running a gap scheme for Chubb, which they should. Iowa is purely a gap scheme running team and would basically be a plug-n-play OT for the Browns.

Wirfs or Becton would be an easy pick for the Browns. Not sure Wills fits the profile as well as the other two. I think Thomas would also be a slam dunk but I don't think there is any way he's getting past the Giants.

I agree with this, although I think you may have the phrases "gap" and "zone" mixed up. The Browns are going to run a zone scheme, right?

1. Thomas
2. Wirfs
3. Becton

Is my order the Browns based on projected offensive scheme. I like Wills a lot as a prospect and in terms of pure talent, I'd probably put him 2nd of the 4, but I think he's the 4th best fit.

2 and 3 are likely interchangeable for me.

Becton being just 20, having his natural size/length, ability to play LT.

Hard for me not to take a leap on that.

I would say that Becton might be the favorite, even with the Browns where Wirfs fits perfectly. The guy has rare, RARE athletic ability and shows it on the field.

He's Greg Robinson if Greg Robinson had any clue of how to translate his athletic gifts into football skills. Becton knows how to correctly use his feet, keeps guys out of his chest and rarely gets beat around the edge.

I'm perfectly fine with either. With Wirfs declaring, I'm nearly positive the Browns will get an absolute stud at 10.

The closest thing I can think of is Carson Palmer.

Palmer threw 29 TD and 30 INT in his sophomore and junior seasons combined with USC going 5-7 and 6-6 those two years.

Then as a senior he threw 33 TDs to just 10 INTs and USC went 11-2. Palmer ended up going 1st overall.
