2020 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Damn, the last 5 mocks I have seen have all been Becton. That train is really choo'ing:

10. Cleveland Browns: Mekhi Becton, OT, Louisville

The Browns signed right tackle Jack Conklin to a three-year deal in free agency, but there is still a huge need at left tackle. A mountain of a man at 6' 7" and 364 pounds with vines for arms (35 5/8"), the 20-year-old Becton has work to do on technique, but he has unique movement skills for a man his size.

41. Cleveland Browns: Antoine Winfield Jr., S, Minnesota

74. Cleveland Browns: Jordyn Brooks, LB, Texas Tech

97. Cleveland Browns (via HOU): Darrell Taylor, EDGE, Tennessee

115. Cleveland Browns: Larrell Murchison, IDL, North Carolina State

and then @jking948 posted that while this post was being made and TOTALLY LIFTED MY TABLE a few inches!
I just find it hard to believe the Browns draft the one guy out of the top-six tackles that is going to have mobility issues his first year in the outside zone scheme.

I actually think Becton will eventually be great in a Shanahan-style offense. But his lack of technique combined with his size is going to be a problem in his first year.

also i dont think the top 10 is a place to take a project. I mean i get it, the guy could be awesome. But when you have your choice of a couple of other guys that should also be awesome, i just dont see the risk.

If all 3 of the other guys are gone, AND simmons isnt there (god that would be a strange draft), then i would entertain it. However I think I would still prefer a trade down and go get Jones.

My fantasy draft is to get simmons at 10, and trade up and get Jones/Becton in the 25 range (though unlikely becton falls that much)

I want Becton the most out of any of the tackles.

He ultimately has a high chance to be the best of the bunch and the best fit for our team moving forward given scheme.

Saying he’s a “project” simply isn’t accurate. He would still be a massive upgrade at our LT position and can plug and play next year.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is postponed next week.

The way the first round is being mocked, to me, suggests that most people think Wirfs, Thomas, or Wills will be available at 10.

I do think there is another world where the Giants, Chargers, and Cardinals take a LT and Simmons goes to Carolina. In my mind, this is the worst world for the Browns.

The world where Simmons falls is the same as the above, but rather than taking Simmons, the Panthers take Henderson, Brown, or Kinlaw. Then the Jaguars take one of the other two or a receiver at 9. In that case, I think the Browns probably have to take Simmons, and then figure out a way to trade up between 18-23 and grab Becton, Jones (my preference - I think he’s actually the fourth best tackle in the class), or Cleveland.

I would say he is a "project" in that he is the least refined of the top 4 tackles. Is that a better way of putting it?

at the end of the day i think Simmons goes top 8, and browns have their choice of at least 2, if not 3 of the LTs. But one can dream.

I can’t get past Becton playing worse competition. I haven’t looked at the details, so I could be wrong, but Louisville? Who do they play? I guess it cuts both ways: he wouldn’t be surrounded by the best talent on his own team either.

I just think people say “4 great tackles” like they are all decade-long bedrocks on their teams. More realistic that one busts, 1 is a journeyman, and 2 are pro bowl players, with only 1 being a potential perennial type stud.

Becton might be the best, but for me, the bust ris too high. Wirfs won’t be there...

I take Simmons for the AFCN if he’s there but he won’t be. No chance. Someone else will trade up. I hope I am wrong.

Take the high character work ethic leader guy who plays smart at OT, if he is still there. Plays smart beyond “he doesn’t get a lot of penalties”. I mean really gets to the right spot.

Yep. My guess is that the Giants take Wirfs, Chargers go QB, Panthers take Simmons, Cardinals take Wills, and the Browns are left with Thomas. But I guess we will see.

There was a ton of fluff in the Berry conference call which is to be expected, but two things caught my eye.

1. The Browns are publicly claiming that they don't differentiate between left and right tackle or left and right guard.

2. Obviously they want to address both at the same time they can, but the Browns appear more interested in picking the best available player even if that player may not fill an immediate hole than they would picking a slightly lesser player who fills a 2020 need.

I'm really beginning to think the #10 pick may be too low to get one of the top-3 O-Lineman, especially if Redskins go QB. I know most mocks have Young there, but I don't buy Rivera building this team with a young QB drafted by the previous regime.

In the top-10, the Giants, Chargers, Dolphins, Jags and Cardinals all have a serious need for O-Line help. Plus, the Jets and Bucs, who are in striking distance to trade up at 11 and 14, are in need as well. I'm really keeping an eye out for the Chargers on draft day, if they don't land Herbert, Tua, or Burrow, to me, there is no doubt they go T. Especially given they had one of the worst OL's in the league last year and just traded away their starting LT (Okung).

If the top-3 are gone, I am very much okay with the Browns trading down. They made some nice moves in the off-season, but I don't think the needle moved at all. The opportunity to solidify some positions groups (CB, DL, WR) and plug immediate holes (OL, S, LB) is doable with an extra asset or two in rounds 1 -3, but may be too much wishful thinking.

On a semi-related note, its so frustrating that Baltimore has five picks in the first three rounds. It's amazing the difference between a well-run organization and the Browns.

What is the absolute worst case scenario for the Browns at 10?

All four OTs - Wirfs, Thomas, Wills and Becton - are all gone, plus Simmons is gone too?

If that were to happen, I guess the Browns' best options would be...

Kinlaw at 10
Josh Jones at 10
Trade back targeting Jones or Cleveland in the 15-25 range

100% trade back (depending how far you have to go back to still be able to land Jones) or just take Jones.

A statement we have said many times on here.... Don't get cute.
