2020 Off-Season Rumors/News

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Will arbitration awards reflect COVID economics or will arbitrators turn a blind eye to our new world and pretend the old rules remain in play? Sincere question.

No. Old rules apply. Only question remaining is basically how arbitration will view the statistics for a 60 game season.

Any savings on player salaries to reflect our new world will likely come down to length of the schedule next year and some sort of an agreement between the owners and the PA (good luck with that).

Money doesn't compete..players do..

I know this, but at 40 mil, it will be only rookies/everyone under 25 for almost every position on the team... Not sure if that's what you want

We are around 50 mil keeping everyone and putting it to 40 mil, we would have to trade Carrasco or JRam and going straight young guys with no room to bring in veterans. They won't be able to compete at 40 mil.

If they indeed do trade Carrasco, shouldn't we know what's coming back before we throw in the towel, regardless of the payroll number?

I believe that the 2020 season will absolutely have an impact on arbitration cases. You can't get blood from a turnip and every team is feeling the lack of butts in the seats. Maybe the 2-3 elite players will get close to what they want in negotiations, but the majority could very well feel the ramifications.

Looks like....

Across the board..every team is declining what would otherwise be considered "reasonable" options on players..typically.. 2 to 5 guys.. A handful of these option declined players have been acquired by a different ML team..but, for the most part.. Limbo is getting very VERY crowded..

..and it's going to get more and more crowded..

I don't think players in baseball or basketball have fully realized yet how the pandemic is going to affect their earning power going forward.

For the good of the sport both sides need to agree to a work stopage till they can get back to 100% attendance. Small and medium market teams not being able to afford anyone (and having to make huge cuts) is terrible for the league

Hence why the revenue sharing and whatnot are so bad in MLB. They need to fix this soon otherwise can you keep the small guys from going bankrupt? This is going to hurt baseball so bad if they don't fix things, but they are only focused on bs stuff like, runners on second base in extra innings, pitch to three batters and maxing out contracts when there is no max to a contract....

@The Human Q-Tip from your experience and how back and forth the negotiations where this last offseason, how far apart do you think they will be in 22 for the new bargaining agreement?

I don't think that's feasible for the players or the owners. Players have only so many earning years available to them and owners have debt to service unrelated to player salaries.

But it is unknowable if that timeline is 1 year or 10 years. This is the time when the players and owners need to do what they should have done a long time ago, work together to figure out an equitable way to disperse the revenues they are able to generate under the current rules. Teams in cities that can sell tickets shouldn't get a big boost over teams in cities that cannot. Shutting down the sport helps no one.

oh i agree, they have to find a long term solution to this. However they seem completely and incapable of doing such a thing

Blue Jays pursuing one of Jackie Bradley Jr. or George Springer..making one of their three OF'ers "expendable".. Add the right "expendable" to Groshans SS/3B, one of SWR/Manoah/Kloffenstein SP's, Orelvis Martinez SS and a throw in like Riley Adams C.. and Aaron Civale, Francisco Lindor will have their numerous bags carried north of the border by Bobby Bradley?..

The Indians aren't attaching a significant piece like Aaron Civale in any Lindor trade. That ain't happening....

Agreed. If they trade a SP, I'd imagine it would be Carrasco due to his cost(which is a very team friendly deal), but that will likely be a separate deal. A 3 way deal is always a possibility, but even more stars have to align for that to happen.

Three way deals always seem to work for the Indians.. love the idea.. hate the details...
