2020 Off-Season Rumors/News

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don’t think the Twins learned anything from the Joe Mauer contract that was an albatross on that organization rather quickly.

Josh Donaldson and Mauer are nothing alike though.

Mauer hits for any semblance of power and that contract is no longer an "albatross". Everything that Donaldson does well at the dish ages well.

Barring health issues popping up, this is a good deal for the Twins. Pretty similar to the deal we gave Encarnacion, but Donaldson is on a different planet offensively than Encarnacion and can still play a position pretty well.

Pitching and signs stealing wins championships. Stacked hitting certainly wins divisions as we saw. Tribe definitely has the better more quality arms, but see Twins offense. I'll convince myself how the Indians can win the Central through pitching, but Donaldson bolsters that group so much. It'll be a battle all summer long. Hopefully fans show up.
I think the AL Central has graduated from AAAA to the big leagues again. I cannot wait for this spring/summer.

Josh Donaldson can take his projected 5.3 WAR and suck a fat one!

Tribe fans have the honor to watch Jake Bauers, Gregg Allen, Zimmer and other trash heaps post a 72 WRC+ to ensure that future generations of Dolans never have to worry about their trust funds dipping below six figures. Balance that payroll, baby!

It’s going to be ok. It’s not that serious.

I agree with him tho. There’s no reason to shield the Indians or protect their process and keep their training wheels on....

They had a window to win a title. Signed Edwin, traded for Jay Bruce and Brad Hand in subsequent seasons and then stopped doing anything.

We know there is no realistic chance at a World Series at this point (tho we strive for a fraction of hope that everything breaks right).... Team will go though their cycle and will look to contend legitimately around 2026...... If they draft/trade well enough to do so....

Dude, I'm well aware that professional sports doesn't have dire consequences. I figured that since I was on a Cleveland Indians thread, I might as well express my frustration via a sarcastic quip.

I know it's cliche at this point but it's also true - get in and see what happens, especially if you have starting pitching.

With that said, I do think the Tribe could meet us halfway and sign a guy like Puig.

Actually really like that deal for them.

They’ll squeeze out the last bit of quality defense he can give someone at 3B just in time for Cruz to be a free agent, then a team with a lot of young, cost controlled good players can slot him in at DH as a steady middle of the lineup bat.

Only way I think this goes poorly for them is if his health problems come back, which could most certainly happen. Otherwise, if he’s in your lineup you pretty much know what you’re getting from him.
I wouldn't bank on him being an effective hitter in 2 years.

Puig is about the only OF left that I would be interested in that is realistic. I'm sure he's still looking for a multi-year deal but after a disappointing 2019 he's probably better off taking a 1 year deal to regain his value. There is familiarity with the Indians, an everyday spot for him, and the Indians are in the market of taking things 1 year at a time with free agents.

Castellanos and Ozuna would both be great, but both are more than likely out of our price range

Pence was great last year for Texas, both only played in 83 games. Has only had 400+ ABs in 1 of his past 5 years. Can't count on him to give you many innings in a year

Don't see guys like Gordon, Dyson, Pillar, etc. as notable upgrades to what we have

Domingo Santana intrigues me a bit, but the 30%+ K rate and being an awful, awful defender kills it for me. If we didn't have Reyes locked in at DH I'd be more interest

Again, unless his body just falls apart, I don't see it.

He's putting up hitting metrics that are just bonkers, between exit velocity, hard hit%, slugging, wOBA, and has always been since they've tracked those figures.

No way those fall off a cliff after 2 seasons. He's 34. Only other guy I remember with consistent absurd batted ball metrics is going to be his teammate who just hit 40+ HRs and slugged well over .600 as a 38 year old.

Sometimes I like to think about what this team could be like if their fanbase spent less time sarcastically spewing tired, anti-ownership bullshit on social media or Indians threads and more time actually supporting the most well-run and respected franchise in the city.

It's not like they traded for Santana last off season, or Puig/Reyes during last season. I mean, those would be both doing anything and doing good things for the now and the future, especially if they dealt players that were getting too expensive/from surplus, while also adding younger promising talent.
