2020 Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What are we giving up? I don't think we have cap to eat the contract for nothing

JaVale McGee is an interesting fella lol...

In all seriousness though, he actually is a competent backup and can protect the rim.

Gained a future 2nd rounder and he’s an expiring that we can flip at the deadline.

McGee and Future 2nd for McKinnie and Bell.

Bell still had some upside as a young guy but I actually like McGee a lot better if we just want to focus on developing our guards. We have three great lob threats now and McGee is better in PnR than Drummond.

I think the front office wanted decent players to help develop the younger players. Drummond and Love aren't standing in the way in terms of minutes of holding anyone back. We need a complete team to develop the young players properly. When you have holes in the roster it can hurt players development because they are pushed into roles beyond their skill set. When Nance and Love can't play, we playing Cedi at PF and that is prime example of this.

I think one of the reasons they took on Drummond was in hopes they can trade him for higher value this year. They gave up two not so valuable 2nd round picks, if they get a first for him it will be worth it. Some of the OKC and NO trades have involved players with value for better pieces, its why they have been able to keep flipping the assets.

Koby has tried to reclaim some players to get value. Henson and Knight weren't bad bets to try to flip down the line. Drummond isn't either. Some teams are just lucky that the players needed to be given up for trades to work the numbers are just more valuable than others.
Well said....Drummond is just a bargaining chip come the deadline. Love was extended because even a young team needs an experienced vet to show them how play and learn the league. I don’t expect Love to be on this roster next year. I think both he and Drummond will be moved by draft day 2021 and next summer we will have tons of cap space to use.

I kind of wanted to see more Bell but McGee actually does bring more of what we need than Bell would have.

McGee is such an odd duck but he really is a freak athlete.

Actually a smart trade for us....

there’s no way McGee plays a minute here. It’ll be a buyout.

I don’t see that. Would have been cheaper to buyout Bell + McKinnie so that wouldn’t have made much sense for us since the Lakers 2nd is likely a 55-60 pick

He fits a need and is on an expiring in which we can flip at the deadline. It would be pretty stupid of our front office to buy out a guy that a.) fits a need off the bench and b.) absolutely has value at the deadline.

I could see them holding on to him to trade him later but I doubt McGee wants to be here. He’ll probably force his way out. This was all about the pick and it would clear cap for us.

It's a 2026 2nd. I doubt that is 55-60 unless 40 year old Bron still carrying the Lakers.

Hard to imagine they would do this trade to just buyout McGee. The 2nd round pick has essentially no value. They either plan to keep him or think they can flip him for more.

McGee is on a cheap contract. We will be able to flip him the moment someone gets injured on another team.

The Lakers will most likely waive both Bell and Mckinnie so we will probably just resign one or both if we like them. I personally hope we bring back Mckinnie, he is good fill in depth because he can play multiple positions.

Don't think you can just resign them. Remember when Big Z was traded then he was released and think the cavs had to wait several months before they could resign him.
