2020 Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Wait... the Cavs needed another scoring guard? Has the roster limit been raised to 30 players?
Yeah, they even had that Matthews guy on an exhibit 10... Maybe they are shipping out one of the guards soon, maybe Exum?

This makes him out to be a 3 and D wing.

I also looked it up and he was about a 40% catch and shoot 3 pt shooter last year.

Yep, okay on defense and okay from three... but spends a lot of time in the coaches doghouse. I guess money doesn't talk for 3 and D wings who can sign for the minimum with a playoff team instead.

This strikes me as signing someone with potential to help off the bench and hoping he develops. I don't think it's a long term play, but with such a cheap deal there is little risk to the Cavs and they may be able to flip him to someone who wants a 3 and D wing at the deadline. Not going to bank big assets, but it seems restocking the 2nd rounders is something they want to do.

Yep, the Cavs definitely needed anither defensive wing. No argument against that @Nathan S

My guess is they see Kevin Porter Jr. as a candidate to receive a suspension at the beginning of the season. They don't need a player who has a high usage.

I preferred the team to use more of the MLE on a veteran like Moe Harkless or Torrey Craig, but this is the bargain bin version.

Is he even any good though? His steal/block numbers are worse than Sexton's which is an impressive feat. Why not just roll with Exum for those minutes?

Because Exum does nothing well. At least this guy can shoot the 3 a little bit.

Dante Exum is still learning to play off the ball. He was a point guard until two seasons ago. I do feel like he is getting better at figuring out how to be an off ball offensive threat, but he is probably just going to be used as an expiring. Utah just mishandled that kid from day one.

You are right. For some reason I thought if they were waived instead of bought out they could return to the team that traded them. I was wrong on that. It sucks for players like Mckinnie because they might not get a chance with another team while the team that traded them might be still interested in bring them back. I don't think that was the intentions of the rule.
The Lakers are signing Marc Gasol with the cap space we gave them by taking McGee and the other players off their hands! I hate helping the Lakers put better players around LBJ ;(

Cedi is always an option if we really want an off-ball guy in that spot. I just don't see the fit for Dotson at all. Cavs fans uniformly agreed that Clarkson was a horrible fit here. Dotson is like if you took Clarkson and stripped him of his few redeeming qualities. I absolutely hate it.

How is Dotson even comparable to Clarkson, a ball-dominant scoring guard?

Adding Javale and Dotson at the very least provides them w/ 2 more tradeable pieces at the deadline. Those min salary guys like McKinnie and Bell would be next to useless as salary filler in any potential deal. Combining Javale/Dotson's contract with Exum at the deadline might present some trade options for them. Just spitballin here..

Just when I think the Cavs don't need any more guards they go out and sign another.

You know what, I say cut every single forward/center on our roster. Screw them. Lets go all PG's and SG's and try an entirely new version of "positionless" basketball. Let's call it "forwardless" basketball.
