2020 Series #18 White Sox @ Indians, Sep 21-24

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Very entertaining game - lots of drama. You knew after Civale bobbed and weaved his way through the first four innings they were going to get to him the third time around and indeed they did. A couple of fastballs right down the middle to Abreu and Eloy Jimenez cost him four runs.

The top four hitters in the Indians order combined for seven hits and six RBI's. Hosey had another huge game with a home run, double, and a walk. Santana had a home run batting right-handed, but his problem is hitting left-handed. Lindor got two hits with the bases empty and left four runners on as usual.

It was great to see Josh Naylor hit the ball hard four times, including two line drives off the wall for doubles. He finally pulled a ball in the air which I have yet to see him do. It would be great if he could start hitting right now.

Wittgren struck out the side facing the 2-3-4 hitters in the order. Impressive. Karinchak walked a guy but struck out two more in the 8th. Hand had to overcome a blown double play by Hosey but prevailed. Nice to see him throwing a 94 mph fastball.

Mariners break through in the 7th. Looks like we might have to wait until tomorrow, to clinch.

setting up the playoff pitching - Quantrill getting the start tomorrow night

Quantril says he wants to start and pitch 200 innings a year. Here's his chance to start making his case against a team that can swing the bats.

No rush to clinch - we have three games against the Pirates after this series. Time to start getting a couple of days off for Hernandez, Lindor, Hosey, Carlos, and Berto. They need to get Maton in there and give him a chance to get back on the horse. Keep Naylor in the lineup now that he's hitting the ball hard - we don't want him to lose that stroke.

Quantrill starting gives him a HUGE opportunity to showcase his talent and that he belongs in the starting rotation.. Up until now..he's been used strictly out of the tribe bullpen and only a few times with the Padres has he gone more than an inning and only one start. Up until 2020, he was developed strictly as a starter as he zoomed through the Padres minor league system. What a great chance for him !

Simply stated..from what we've seen.. he has the stuff to be a very good middle of the rotation starter.. perhaps more..

We'll see..

A few thoughts...

The playoff rotation looks set.

Biebs, Plesac, Cookie (if needed) in the first and second rounds. Civale and TMac, if needed, as 4-5 in the second.

For tonights game, the team had two options to start.

Plutko and Quantrill.

Quantrill got the call. What does that say about Plutko, who on paper could give the most innings? Obviously, its gonna be some type of bullpen game...and we may see both tonight.

But does this signal that Quantrill is now the #6 going into the playoffs? Or is it an audition to be the first replacement?

But wouldnt you want Plutko to get an extended outing now, just in case one of the top five pulled up lame?
