I'm gonna take a moment to (*change topic and*) give my feelings on the team I'm looking at right now.

I like this team. And I'm having fun watching them. First time in a while. Since 2009. And since 1998 (sans LeBron). I can barely get time to watch 'em live. So the fact that I diligently re-watch every game 2 hours after it ends means more than it did before (while I desperately avoid spoilers in the process).

But we're not very lucky. You need that in the NBA to win it all (just ask the Bucks and Suns, who ran through those injury-depleted teams last year). It's a shame with Rubio and Sexton. And all the tick-tack injuries, and covid restrictions. But everybody has stuff go on. And being able to still flourish, like we did on the 5-1 West Coast trip, says something about us (not sure what yet).

Can you feel the magic with this team? I only go back as 1998 in actual team investment, but I've had very brief moments of bliss watching them play. 1998, with 4 rookies + Kemp. 2006-2008, with post-season promise. 2009, with regular season dominance. And 2016, an incredible championship run. But these guys have defied my expectations, thus far.

Do they seem more like a team I hadn't seen, like the 1989 team? Evan Mobley has a rookie season in the vein of Brad Daugherty, but with more Hod Rod versatility and Nance-like defense? Is Darius Garland potentially better than Mark Price? And does Jarrett Allen give us a look that the 1976 team had with Jim Chones? And even with the same weaknesses (like the lack of SF talent and core depth), they could still use assets and upgrade.

Like I said, I really like this team. What will they show us for the rest of this season? And will it be brief (like last year's Hawks), or is there another gear yet to be seen (like the pre-2014 Warriors)?
I say, they are closer to that '89-92 (they made the ECF) team than they are not. But they are also in the infancy, so I would say this team is hovering more around the '86-87 level ('86 draft being the biggest one for the Cavs outside of 2003). I think we'll see a lot of wins we don't expect. Above .500 to end the season. Playoffs.

I don't know about another gear, though individuals (particularly Garland) are doing that now. Hard to tell what happens until after the trade deadline to see if the Cavs do anything there. Really, I think next season might be the earliest we really get to know where this team is going. It's an "enjoy the ride" season this year.

Just my opinion, to become a really solid team, the Cavs need a wing player who can shoot and handle the ball. In the 2022 draft, the Cavs have a first round pick and two second round picks which could be quite high, to find that player. The player would be cheap and under contract for years. No need to do anything?
I would agree with you completely on this. And maybe that's the play unless the Cavs see blood in the water in a team who's ready to cut losses. The nice thing about that is that such a player could slot right in at the spots of Cedi, Okoro, Windler, Stevens in the most optimal scenario.

you don't need to look back to 2014 gsw, just look at phoenix. they made the play in during the lockdown season, then made the finals the year after, and is currently one of the top teams in the nba.

experience matters, even more so the experience of being scouted and game planned in a playoffs series. that is what's lacking right now and we just need to see how the young guys channel their learnings into better versions of themselves.

The 85-86 and 86-87 teams were well under .500. The 87-88 team was only 42-40. This team is WAY ahead of that schedule.

To be honest, I think she's better at the actual job than both Angel and Allie Clifton were when they started. Both were painfully awkward until they settled into the job.
Allie’s first few reports were so so bad. Completely cringe worthy and you could tell she knew it too. Her face turned beat red and she looked ready to cry. Her glow up was legit, but I’ll never forget, just how you put it, how painfully awkward it was.

Yeah, Allie had a tough time recovering from this :chuckle:

The Cavs are in a five-way tie for 1st place in the Eastern Conference in terms of wins (27).

I just went through our remaining 37 games, predicting which ones we will win, and something will really have to go wrong for us not to get to 50 wins.

Milwaukee just completely collapsed against Altanta, so now the Cavs have sole ownership over the 4 seed.

We would have dropped to 5 if the Bucks had won.

I always agree with your assessments. Always spot on.

It's definitely talent rather than not giving a shit until the playoffs or something like that...

Fucking Gianus antetacuntpoo. Who let this guy touch a basketball.
Well, when the Bucks are playing a healthy Nets in the first round getting swept, call me then.
