It's sickening to see a guy with Robert's talent not duel peers like Byron Buxton in meaningful games all summer long. It's what makes baseball great.
But let's all remember: if one of our big guys goes down, no one gives a damn. They just beat us and move along. That's what we have to do. Attrition is a part of a baseball season, nothing you can do but hope you can avoid the catastrophic injuries.

There is no way that this org, in the midst of a pandemic...and no way to know when fans would be allowed to return...could, or should, pick up Santanas option.
And it wasnt like he was a sure thing. At his age and after 2020, he was an $18 mil gamble.
Orgs like Cleveland can't afford to gamble with more than a third of their payrolls, even in normal times.

I don't get why you hate Santana so much. He's so smooth. He's proven that he has longevity and can keep doing this for a long time. His song with Rob Thomas was dope.

Several years ago my girlfriend and I were attending Spring Training in Phoenix. One
afternoon we decided to go see the Giants workout. At that time they had workouts
at a community college in Scottsdale.
As we wandered around, we noticed Mays tutoring Giant outfielders out in CF on one
of the diamonds. No fences or security forces in those days. As they huddled up
for the learning, we crept closer , attempting to eavesdrop on the conversation.
Suddenly Mays turned toward us and I thought he was going to read us the riot act.
Instead, he smiled , waved us into the huddle. He graciously posed for a picture and let us
hang close enough to listen to his teaching positioning and breaking for hits.
A very cool experience all the way.

On the occasion of baseball’s oldest living Hall of Famer turning 90, a reflection on the conditioning that powered his greatness.
Mays had a reputation of being surly to fans at times in his retirement years.

Same deal with Mr Feller.. he'd talk and talk and talk.. not on the field.. in the stands with you.. He was a graciously splendid human who truly loved baseball and baseball fans.. That led to the axiom (at least while he was alive)... "...if you didn't have Bob Fellers autograph, it was your fault because signed everything he was presented.." Some former players embrace the gift and give back.. others are surly SOB's that have no patience for the intrusion..One of the last of the all time greats:

I was around Rapid Robert a number of times at promotional events over the years....Bob loved to talk, and was never shy about comparing himself to other players, but he did it with a certain charm and obvious love of the game.
Feller was very user friendly. I remember him still throwing BP during ST at Hi-Corbett Field
in Tucson.
Definitely liked to boast, but in a good way. It was great when he would talk about his
match-ups with Satchel Paige on those barn storming exhibitions that toured the countryside.
