2021 Around MLB: Return of the Dead Ball Era

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't agree with that at all. His offensive production was fine, but I've never seen him described as an advanced hitter.

From MLB:
Rocchio has earned the nickname "The Professor" because of his outstanding baseball IQ. It's apparent at the plate, where he's a switch-hitter with precocious bat-to-ball skills and pitch recognition. He may never walk much because he makes contact so easily, but his hitting ability and quick, strong hands should yield double-digit home run totals once he adds some needed strength.

Covering the corner:
After crushing the Dominican Summer League and earning a promotion to the States, Rocchio’s slash improved to .343/.389/.448, finishing third in the league in batting average while flashing some impressive leather defensively in the middle infield, and he did this all while just 17 years old.

Nicknamed “The Professor” due to his high baseball IQ and game awareness, Rocchio already shows the signs of a disciplined hitter, improving his walk rate to 6.3% and dropping his strikeout rate to 10.8% after getting promoted to the AZL. He was rated by Baseball America as the top prospect coming out of the 2018 Arizona Rookie League.

IBI/247 Sports:
Offense: Rocchio is regarded highly for his ability to put the bat on the ball and his advanced eye at the plate. The number of walks he takes is limited by his ability to put the bat on the ball. The young shortstop is a switch hitter with quick hands and wiry strength, he should develop average (50) power or about 15 home runs once he fills out his frame.

I'm not seeing the contradiction.

You said he was never heralded as a hitter...

You are wrong.
I'm just not seeing where was heralded as a hitter.

Obviously, you don't become a talked-about prospect by hitting under the Mendoza line, but the allure to Rocchio was never his bat. The hope has always been that he'd hit well enough to keep his glove in the field.

I see his contact skills mentioned in your post, but that doesn't always translate to being a good hitter if you have no power. He still rarely strikes out, but the lack of power limits his upside.

And no one said we should sign Pujols yet the Dodgers did... They have even less of a roster spot than we do..

Also, I am not against giving up a MIF prospect for a legit 1B like Los... We have a million prospects and even though Gimenez isn't one anymore, he's what 22... It's going to be hard to crack the 40 man in the future in the MIF. I am not against finding a trade partner to upgrade our roster now...

Sorry, but I'm GLAD Pujols didn't sign here. Not only would it have made no sense, but he would have been no better than what we have currently. Hard pass.

I'd rather have Pujols than Chang on the bench in my mind and it's not because I don't like Chang, but because Chang isn't getting the ABs he actually needs.

I'd rather have Chang playing 2B, SS, or 3B than Pujols.

That's the primary role of a utility player.

I'd like Pujols as the 26th man and platooning with Bauers...

Chang hasn't even been playing anything other than 1st honestly..
Here are Chang's games defensively at this point (using Baseball Reference)
So far (thru 5/14) its 19 at 1B, 3 at 3B & 2 at 2B...

IF Ginenez or Amed R were not around I am sure Chang would have gotten some innings at SS already

Chang hasn't been getting enough ABs to get over his confidence issues...

You're wrong in your assessment of Rocchio and you should be glad that you are. He's more highly thought of throughout the industry when you look at prospect ratings than you give him credit for. He's an excellent defensive SS with well above average ability to put the bat on the ball while being selective. He's a very valuable prospect. Having said that I would be glad to package him for an upgrade in Cleveland. The system is so rich in MIF talent that it can afford to trade a good one like Rocchio and probably another one or two TBH.

If you haven't seen him described as an advanced hitter then you haven't read any scouting reports. I'm not sure what basis you have for disagreement on this matter and where you received your information from. Your argument doesn't make any sense to me because every thing I've read about him is contrary to your claim.
