Garcia wasn't just a better fielder in 21, he was a better player. He produced more WAR and carried a better OPS+ in fewer AB. Garcia is simply a more impactful bat, but hey Canha sure can draw a walk! lol! Where are you gonna hit him in the lineup? In the 5 or 6 hole so he can drive in runs and protect JRam and Reyes with those monstrous walks? Garcia will give more protection to our thumpers and he will benefit from it as well. You know what? I'd like to double down on that type of hitter. Sign Garcia then trade for Renfroe. We'll get some exciting baseball for a change and we'd keep our best prospects. We need another batter regardless if they are a two hole or a 5 hole hitter..
Canha has more WAR in two less seasons than Garcia... plus more walks, so if I leaned towards consistency, Canha 100% of the time is my target plus he plays 1B and hits from the right side, something Garcia has never done...
That being stated... Garcia was the better fielder in 21 and has improved that a fair amount in 20-21 while Canha is going the other way when it comes to defense. Plus Canha is 3 years older so when Canha starts regressing it is hard to say.
Neither guy to me is a sure bet, one cause of consistency and the other cause of age factors... with the young roster, I'd rather go Canha than Garcia personally...
The age of the roster has nothing to do with it for me because there is plenty of leadership there already. They don't need Mark Canha or any other acquisition to be anything more than a good ball player. Good grief. We don't need a 2 hole hitter either. I'd say that Amed claimed that shit.
