2021 Around MLB: Return of the Dead Ball Era

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He doesn't have a ton of power to negotiate with his current contract status under the current agreement. He also will lose millions if he has another injury so its his choice right now to take guarenteed money or to gamble on himself... Also it sounded like he is actually for signing an extension that's within reason and that type of extension is.
I hope you're right, but I still don't think you are.

Biebs injury this year cost him around four million already.

The record arby for a first year eligible pitcher is $7.25 mil for Keuchel five years ago.

Keuchel had just won the CY and was gonna be 28. At the time, these were his career numbers.

564.1 IP
3.21 ERA
3.28 FIP
10.6 fWAR

Biebs has a CY. His career numbers are...

503 IP
3.29 ERA
3.05 FIP
13.9 fWAR

A healthy season would have put him at about 600 IP and 16.5 fWAR.

The difference in production and five years of inflation would easily have pushed his arby to $9 mil.

My guess is that Biebs and his agent have already discussed the monetary consequences of this seasons injury, and thrown it into the equation for a possible extension.

I've done this type of move in OOTP and it's almost always worked out for me... Signing guys until age 31/32 is usually the plan and after that, they can be free agents since they normally regress after that...

If Franco's camp accepts that deal it is a game changer for small salary teams.
I can’t put into words how badly I want Jose to be extended this off-season. The jolt of excitement it would provide the rest of the club and the diehards in the fanbase would be incredible. If there’s any Indian/Guardian to invest a $200 million contract towards in their prime over the past twenty years, it’s Jose Ramirez. Oh, and he wants to be here too. Make it happen.

He's signing for 12/223.

What a great move by Tampa. If the new CBA doesn't change the amount of minimum seasons prior to arbitration this is going to be a go to move for a lot of small market franchises when they have a stud of a prospect debut and produce to the hype.

If this precedent was around a decade ago Frankie would still be in Cleveland.

Reading the move though, points me to 1 of 2 things, or potentially both. Salary floor is coming or the timeframe to get to arbitration for players is going to shrink considerably.

I don't think he's made for NY, mentally, but agree at the moment.

Tried their damnedest in 2017 to do something like this. Year too late and the organization wasn't going to be the ones to take that leap.

It's actually now 12/185 guaranteed, rest are escalators/incentives

I like the deal for both and ai think Rocchio is a player we could do something similar (but much cheaper, because of more leverage and not the same pedigree).

What a win for small market teams. Happy to see another low salary team retain their franchise cornerstone rather than see them get swooped up by a big market team on either coast.

I’m sure he’ll be a fine player and continue to get better. But if that guy plateaus or doesn’t get better then man these deals look horrendous.

I do applaud Tampa tho… This is their one way of locking in a potential superstar…Just an outta nowhere move tho…

But yeah as it sits right now I would not want that Lindor contract on my roster… To say we have him for another 9 years or so just doesn’t sit well with me…

Yet some fans essentially boycotted the team for a second cause of the Lindor trade... people aren't just as reasonable as you would hope sometimes...

I’m not touching 30 mill plus a year for Frankie from ages 27 to 37.

But 18 mill a year from ages 22 to 32? I think 100% of Cleveland would have taken that.

Franco will be worth more than what he is making for at least 75% of that contract, probably more, as long as he stays healthy.
