2021 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Kirk McCarty has logged the most innings in the system and he's at AAA

Scott Moss and Logan Allen are on the 40, might as well use them.

They have brought in several vets in Columbus and Kevin Herget has been the "best", but really not much of an option.

Brewers DFA Zack Godley today...

Godley has a Godly BB per 9 stat.... Lol

@Tondo - What are your thoughts about Justin Garza this season??

I'm thinking he could be a "Maton" of sorts in the pen and serve as an opener or two inning relief arm if called upon.
Liked him out of college, but has disappointed since.

Still walks too many guys, xFIP of 4.49 tells me it's SSS fluke.

If we promote a bulk reliever, Francisco Perez deserves a look

I dont know what to make of Gimenez. If you look at his career trends, nothing seems out of order, except for the sudden jump on power.

His walk rate has held normal for several levels, and his K rate has gradually increased, but not out of the ordinary. His success hasn't been driven by BABIP, which is actually down.

Usually, if a batter is merely on a hot or cold streak, lots of things are out of whack. (Think Bradley not striking out much when he first came up.)

I find it hard to believe that such an instant change is not a streak, but I dont see anything in his peripherals that suggest unsustainability. I'm not talking about the six game home run streak, but his whole body of work in Columbus.

Consider this...

If Gimenez had not spent more than a cup of coffee with the Mets, right now he would be far and away our best prospect.
That BB/K ratios indicate to me that while increased power may be sustainable at AAA, he will likely be abused at the MLB level in his current state if he keeps up that same approach. It's still nice to see the power but the next step is building on it. And statistically it's very unlikely that he didn't add power given his earlier stats, maybe not at a level absurdly higher than expected from his age though.

Wander Franco, baseball's top prospect is making his debut tonight with the Rays. As per our earlier conversations, I found it interesting that he is starting tonight's game at Third Base....thought of mostly as a SS, through 40 minor league games this season, he has played 30 at SS, with 10 other games split between 2nd and 3B. It is good to be flexible, even if you top every prospect list.

Rays are the most notorious franchise when it comes to position flexibility... They like most of their players being able to play multi positions, so don't ever expect rookies to have a set position...

Of the seven position players...not counting pitcher and catcher...that started for the Rays tonight, four began their pro careers as MIFs.

Of the ten non catcher/DH players that have gotten the most at bats for the Rays this year, six began as MIFs.

But they don’t have a single Wade Miley.

...and by notorious, you mean successful?!?

Its time to start considering Angel Martinez among the Top 50 prospects in baseball.

End of message.
Do you have him as our #1 position player?

I think I have him above Rocchio and Arias, but for some foolish reason I can't put him above Tyler Freeman... I'm just too big of a Freeman fan.

Welcome to the club my man.

I've been bullish on Freeman since he was drafted. He's got the makeup and natural hit tool which is going to play at 2B.

I think he's capable of being the best hitter in the system, but the power hasn't quite come along like I thought it would to elevate him into that Alex Bregman comp I put on him originally.

Martinez has more natural power, and the hit tool looks every damn bit as good.

Hell of a double play tandem for the future, I don't think I'd deal either of them and would put an All-Star ceiling on both.
