2021 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I've seen some say he could play small ball 5 eventually. That would be crazy with his package. I wonder if he'd have the strengths for it though.
20 years ago you would say probably not. But he is already 6”9 230 at 19, ( going to guess he gets to the 245 area at some point, since he has a great frame to add bulk) so it is not out of the question at all. Plenty of teams go with PF at the 5 for periods of time.

I didn't know he had that weight actually. Impressive. You are right, those are easily center measurables today at least for spot minutes.

Could be one of the most versatile players ever.

Scottie Barnes is really intriguing.
His physical tools, defense, passing, ball handling are really impressive for a guy his size. His BBIQ is also top notch.

He really doesn't have an outside shot, or good touch inside, so he is a bit polarizing. But damn, he is imposing.

Is it fair to say that he's like a bigger version of Okoro with less offensive upside on ball ? Like, they're both wicked smart defensive specialists who can guard multiple positions and pass the ball really well, and even if the shot is shaky and never fully gets there, they'll still be able to be productive players on a winning team for years to come.

Almost like his strengths could be maximized at the 4-5, while at the same time making his weaknesses not detrimental.

We need that second 1rp damn it.

I don't know about a bigger version of Okoro per se, or with a less upside offensively necessarily. But there are some similarities.
Both are physically gifted and can be overwhelming, but Scottie is on a different level .Offensively, his combination of strength, length, stride length, and ability to handle the ball and pass really makes him pop out of the screen and you can sense how overmatched the opposition is when they try to face him head on.

His aggressiveness and stride length when attacking remind me of Giannis in a way. Dunno.

Defensively, his motor is insane. And he covers so much ground. Sure, he is still abit raw defensively off the ball or was at least out of sync on some of the rotations, but with the way he can cover ground it didn't seem to matter.

Okoro was praised for his high motor, but I think he has more of a 'consistent' motor rather than a really high motor. Barnes is just a demon...he plays on 150% all the time, no breaks. Kinda like a Draymond/Giannis.

I don't know what his best position is going to be, but damn, it's just one game(and it wasn't a great game at all), but I want to draft him with a second pick. I think Okoro and him can really change the culture of this team. Would really make them defensively and athletically imposing.

He's like a Ben Simmons who can't finish.

Anyone watched LSU? Thomas and Watford both very interesting.

Keep in mind its early season and many of these guys are playing against cupcakes, not all, but many. That said, yes this is a very strong Freshman class.
